    First ride impressions

Beginning to get the impression that your used 698 had been ridden hard and put away wet, before you bought it. Did your 890 also have cheese cams, or did you get lucky? I bought a manual cam chain tensioner for my 690, based on the bad rep of the stock hydraulic unit, but I didn't end up...

    First ride impressions

Hell, if you want to hear some serious effing "clacking", try a KTM 690! The 698 purrs by comparison. :)

    Camel back?

Following cold start this morning, in underground parking, the pipe was glowing orange by the time water temp readout switched from LO to 104F/40C. Left the lot and headed up the street for about 200 yds. Pipe was still orange. Pulled over, hit the kill switch, waited 5 seconds, started back up...

RTFM on the menus. It works. You have to hold the button down for a couple of seconds to back out of a menu, but sometimes it might be looking for you to hit enter (turn signal cancel). You also can't back out of the top level menu.

    First ride impressions

Some of the bike's noises are not engine related. My front "cowling" (number plate thing) buzzes a bit, as does something on the tail, but it is variable for sure. My KTM 690 used to shed fasteners, related parts, and flap license plates in half. The 698 seems like minded. The right hand screw...

    Camel back?

Drove to work this morning with mild showers and air temps of 44F/6.5C. I parked cross-slope, with the kickstand on the downhill side, on what I estimate is a 5% grade. When I got off the bike, I was surprised to find water pouring off the left side of the radiator like from a garden hose. I'd...

    Cold weather tires?

With temperatures dropping, my morning commute was a balmy -2 Celsius (28 Fahrenheit) today. I don't mind - being dressed for it - but the stock tires are definitely challenged for grip. Does anybody have soft compound tire recommendations for the 698?

Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Owner Roll Call

Welcome, badgb21! It seems Ducati doesn't quite understand the market demographic that this bike appeals to. :) I have fond memories of blasting through the pleasant back roads of southeast England at 80+ mph. Helston, Weymouth, Salisbury, Porton Down, Stonehenge, and Swindon. :)

What have you done to your Hypermotard 698 today?

Installed a new horn today: CAD$20 FIAMM Freeway Blaster (low tone). Made in Murica. Ten minute job. It sounds so good that I’m going to drop one in the car. :)

What have you done to your Hypermotard 698 today?

Update on the Peak Design Qi2 charger mount: The charger comes with a USB-C cable. Magnifying glass on the fine print indicates that it will only put out 5 Watts if operated using the (optional) USB-A cable which plugs into the 698's USB-A aux port. Full Qi2 output requires a 24 Watt power...

What have you done to your Hypermotard 698 today?

Popped on a Peak Design Qi2 charging bar mount tonight. Just a 10-15 minute job. What a treat. Even came with a 4mm allen key for the mount, which is all you need to remove the seat, fuel tank center panel, and get under the left side fairing with the USB cable. Just need to weather seal the USB...

    Some experiences with fuel consumption

Many of my trips are city driving (5-10 km with stop and go traffic) and I always warm the engine above “LO” before heading out. I generally use sport mode with rider aids disabled. With that, my best case fuel consumption tends to 31-33 MPG (US) or 7-7.5 l/100 km, which seems typical of reports...

    Engine light flashing

I haven't seen the engine light outside of power on self-test. "The warning light turns on flashing to warn about a critical emission-related error that could damage the catalytic converter. If possible, have the vehicle be taken to a Ducati authorised service centre and the malfunction...

Filter & Slipon vs Full termi

Track operators in Europe seem to have racers taking noise regulations more seriously than street riders there. But I'll note that street bikes tend to be ridden softer than race bikes, and that has a huge impact on noise. With baffles removed, the Wings can on my 690 would make my ears bleed...

    Brake line rerouting

I do like the bike blacked out (especially the DLC fork sliders that nobody seems to notice) and I think it looks rugged, but I also like the gold anodizing and wonder if it might look good on the wheels and swing arm.

    Brake line rerouting

I didn't think that part listing wasn't there on Wednesday, but I didn't realize how many pages of parts they were listing for the 698. The standard setup doesn't bother me, and I do use it as a suspension/wheelie indicator, but I also like the cleaner look and suspect this could sell well for...

    698 won't shift lower than 4th

Nice looking part but I can't believe they didn't issue a new part number. I smell ethically-challenged managers, lawyers, and/or bean counters. No way any mature engineering department would EVER pull a stunt like that. Diesel gate mentality. Maybe a step up from KTM, but still not ok.

    Brake line rerouting

I know the front brake line hoop bothers some folks, and here's proof that it can be "deleted". Was watching a shift tech video today (tail of the dragon, I think) and noticed that they managed to reroute front brake lines. Turns out that setup was also in place for photos on their page for the...

    Akrapovič slip ons

A cheap CAN bus tester and Euro 5 adapter cable can be used to check/reset the code.
