    9k service question

The service bulletin repairs (not official recalls - so they won't show up in a website VIN search) are free - so no fee. Tank is 20 -30 minutes after the first time struggle - but plenty of info on the site about things to look out for (mainly: remove the front rubber spools that the front of...

    9k service question

It is an interference motor. I'm not a duc expert, but experts say a change every 2 years regardless of mileage is a good idea. Don't know the price, but I'd guess around $300 including parts. If money is tight and the bike is running well - I'd pull the front plug for a quick check, do...

    9k service question

Sounds like a good idea to have someone give it a look over. If the belts haven't been changed in 5 years, I'd probably have them do it. My dealer charged me $40/spark plug just in parts cost. I have done all my own maintenance since, excepting belts and valves. Once you learn how to take...

    Oil change interval question

It's a watercooled bike so the internal environment is well controlled and tolerances are much more precise than an air cooled machine. That said, follow your bliss, but I'll stick to 6-9 K miles intervals - basically a season of riding. The manual is 9k and that is probably conservative...

    Oil change interval question

Sure, if you only ride a few thousand miles a season and you're storing it, then change the oil for the winter. Otherwise you're wasting money, and the idea that oil is cheap would be news to a lot of people around the world.

    Front suspension question

He and Mupo were the people I was talking to. A dead end. In the end, if the internals are being removed, what do they care what's in the fork. IE - I'm 95% sure they're kayaba - but if everything is being pulled - who cares. I sent photos etc.. as requested - and then dead space. It was a...

    Oil change interval question

Specifically using a motorcycle specific synthetic oil. Synthetics maintain their stated viscosity a lot longer. I was told recently by duc expert that these engines have a different way of dealing with oil pressure at idle and that the ducati filter is specifically valved for this. I'll...

    Ignition Coil issues

I think there were occasional voltage spikes and the service bulletin recall is a filter that guided them to ground. Probably some sort of zener diode thing.

    Front suspension question

Mupo makes a 1 fork cartridge, but I couldn't actually get them to sell me one. There was a discussion of what brand forks I have, whether there was anything in the other cartridge etc.. After getting them and the shop all the info I could, and all the info they requested, they just stopped...

    Random "ERRORS"

I think they're generic parts - if you can find the bosch part number they could be picked up for maybe $60.00. Might take a little research. Heard the same for coils - I think they're the same as Can-am coils. Saw the info once and lost it.

    Front suspension question

I'd suggest also getting in touch with Traxxion as they seem very familiar with this suspension. One thing to note - it is an odd set up. One fork is a standard inverted, while the other seems some sort of hybrid. On the hybrid side you cannot access the internals easily from the bottom to...

"Error" and all dash lights flashing, Fan Turns on, No Start...

Great news - and sounds like a good shop. Ducati did a similar good will repair on a friend's strada. Was the failure related to the canbus filter service bulletin retrofit?

    General questions from newby

I just occasionally spray the latches with silicon and they're fine. I also clean and spray the spool mounts on the bike.

    General questions from newby

Let's see: Can't run heated gear from power outlets. They're on the canbus system and limited to about 60 watts. Run a fused coax to the battery. You will find, when pushing a little, that moving forward on the seat and weighting the front gives you more front end feel. Otherwise no answer...

    New to me Hyperstrada

    I pack about 100- 130 liters of stuff on it - 60-70lbs - don't even feel it.

    New to me Hyperstrada

Welcome. I'd be interested in hearing a comparo with the buell. In terms of form factor and purpose it seems similar to the hyperstrada. Unlike this and the Guzzis the strada is a mid range machine so don't be shy about twisting the throttle - somewhere around 6k things start to get interesting.

    Ceramic bearings pivot shifter mod

This got me thinking about the heim joints in the linkages and their implication in providing some play. No answers there, but in inspecting my levers I noticed the rear brake was way to loose - so thanks :-)

    Removing gas tank

They are studs that I think go into a metal insert in the plastic of the tank. Only the nuts should come off. I would try some penetrant on the nut, then trying to hold the stud while trying to loosen the nut. Not a simple task as it's kind of buried. My guess - and I'm only guessing - is...
