It can be sensitive, bumping the bike can sometimes be enough to set it off, at least on mine...

OK, been shaking down the changes and what a road Rt 191 in AZ is, here's an update... 1) installed Factory Pro Shift Kit - loosened up a bit, seems to have eliminated ambiguity in shifts, wasn't sure it would make a difference but it did, for the better 2) installed clutch fix (added judder)...

I too want to add this...gets real hot here in the southwest... Great, I put the spacers back in that last time I reassembled... :-/

+1 noticeably stiffer... This looks like something cool to do and would really cut down on the oil contamination, what the replacement cover off of? Any other advantages? Also looks like you'll be going hydraulic to actuate?

Did 3 things this time: 1) installed Factory Pro Shift Kit (1st and 2nd photo, look close at the bearing) 2) installed clutch fix (added judder) 3) replaced my rear brake pedal/peg with something higher that pivots if down 1st photo old one, 2nd photo is mod to arm and 3rd photo is new...

Check the inboard side of the rivet that held the old peg on, think it has an already perfectly centered pilot to start with...

OK, problem solved, it's wasn't the cover at all, it appears to be a part on the low side of tolerance (ground diamter), I've had this cover on and off at least 8 times and the problem was been the lever either not wanting to engage the nail head (factory name is Clutch Control Pin) or the lever...
