I think what others are saying is right, it will turn in better, help keep the front end from going light at the upper end of the speed range of the bike and help load the front end better on the brakes...enjoy...i did it...

For as long as I don't lock it, no problem, must have something internal to the ignition shorting and when the pin goes into the head, it shorts...I haven't locked the head since and I haven't blown a fuse since, I mean for months now...

Sure but why then has it not happened since I stopped locking the steering head?
