A tip if trailering with bar straps

Hey All.

Recently had to trailer my bike for a move and thought I'd share something that might save you some heartache at the destination. This only applies if using the bar-end trailer tie-downs.

So, you'll obviously have to disconnect the handguards from the bars to use this type of strap. When you do, go ahead and remove the all the hardware that secures the guards to the bars: allen bolt, spacer and 2 bushings. I did not, and one of the bushings spun itself loose, departed somewhere between FL and VA, and I couldn't reassemble one of the guards.

I don't have any experience towing bikes and don't know if these are the best straps. The were on the shelf at my shop and I didn't want to take the chance of rubbing paint away with simple ratchet straps. They worked 4.0.

and the bushings are $10/piece. You need 2 separate part #'s to complete the sandwich style bushing set.

When I towed mine, I just strapped to the trellis frame. Mechanics saw no issue with this, just be sure not to pinch any wires behind the frame.

I attached to the fork just above the lower clamp, choked a short strap and hooked my ratchet straps to that, and put one strap through my top case brackets to keep the rear from bouncing. Don't forget to chalk the front tire! I've seen them slide to the side and drop bikes like that.
