accidently in neutral

Hello folks,

I read about the problem often but I never read a tip how to solve it so I hope, anyone of you knew something :)

Sometimes, when I shift from 4 to 5, 5 to 6 or backwarts it happens that I am accidently in neutral.
When you try to shift upwards or downwards than there is this noise from the gearbox we all know but no one want to hear :D

So anyone knows the problem and knows how to solve it?

Regards,
Manni :)

It's a false neutral between the gears, simply be a bit more "firm" with the gear lever and it should not happen.

You have to be pretty forceful with the gearbox, in my opinion. I've developed a quick and hard boot through the gears. I did get the false nuetral in upper gears when the bike was relatively new.

also not exclusive to this bike. Even my vstrum can have the odd false neutral. Doing full complete moment on the shifter is required. A quick shift is what usually leads to this.

I'd look at adjusting the lever so you can get a bit more travel. It's tempting to keep it high so it doesn't drag in corners, but it makes it harder to get the full throw. I've not missed a shift on my Strada, but have on other bikes. My Hammerhead lever is a bit shorter than the original, that helps too.

Another OBTW: I also ride in steel toe or motorcycle boots with reinforced toe area. Wearing soft shoes could be a culprit and also just not smart if you have an off.

I hate when people suggest another way to shift the bike as if the people who are having problems don't know anything about motorcycles. Simply put, Ducati produced a bad motorcycle & we all need to keep complaining to them until they replace everything with brand new parts that don't malfunction. Hence, I will describe what they have done to my bike so far & the issues I have & I want people to help me figure out what I can get my dealer to do.

They have replaced my ECU, front & rear brake pads, front rotors, throttle assembly, & my clutch cable. Keep in mind I have 11,000 miles & ride the hell out of this bike & sold my 2011 ZX-10R in March to get this bike, which never had any problems. This weekend my kickstand sensor went bad & my bike won't start in gear (I have it "take care of" at the moment) & my clutch feels like jello most of the time & I always get a false neutral. I would expect to have an entire new clutch assembly put in my bike & I hope they overnight me a kickstand sensor on Monday bc I am leaving for the mts Wednesday.

Sorry to those people who love their Duc, but I also want to love mine just as much. Don't try to tell my its my "ahem" riding style. I don't ride like a old man like some of you. I simply want Ducati to make this right. Not to mention we all spent $13k on a bike that has suspension set up for an incompetent 140lb rider... Maybe i hate the suspension bc I spent less on an Asian bike & got Showa big piston front end. Hehe.

So my question is: what can I/we do to make Ducati make this right?

I hear your frustration but, in my world, if you're asking for help you don't insult people. You can look at it pragmatically or just as manners. My thought at the moment - it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Just sell it and be done with it. And stop cutting and pasting your diatribe of a single man's stance on motorcycle utopia. You won't insight an uprising on this mostly satisfied forum.

When you have the dealer warranty something, Ducati tracks this. It's $ out of their pockets and a trend can save them $ by getting ahead of it. And they're owned by the VW group, which isn't known to bury defects.

So put the pitch fork and torch down. Have them fix it, contact Ducati if compelled and keep us posted on the progress.

Every Ducati I've ever owned had the occasional false neutral. As others have said, easily fixed with a more "committed" shift. FWIW, my CBR1k AND V-star years back had the occasional false as well...the V-star more than the rest combined. Ran it out to about 70k before selling it.
