Ok. Maybe got to the bottom of this issue. I unplugged the exhaust valve and like magic my clutch feels like a normal motorcycle.
Wow! What a relief. I think the valve was working against the fly by wire throttle and slightly odd clutch. In any case I no longer feel like an ***** when riding the bike. Lol
The clutch is quite grabby, but I'm pretty used to it by now. It'll get the updated clutch pack, if I ever get enough miles to need a replacement. I've found the slipper action to be quite adequate for aggressive street riding.

There was a revised part # for the newer 821s and 939, I think I read that it started late 2014. Basically they added a judder spring between a couple of the plates to ease the engagement of the clutch. To get it though, you have to order an entire clutch pack.
