Apparently, there was some sort of sports event in the Bay Area on Sunday

which meant that the mountain roads were quiet. M'boy and I did the standard ride - Skyline to La Honda, Pescadero to the coast. A little traffic, but nothing near what you'd usually see on such a nice weekend. Nobody on Pescadero at all.

I rode wifey's SV650 with my buddy on his new Streetfighter 848 on a 200 mile ride on Saturday. Ortega, De Luz, chased a new 911 GT3 RS up Palomar (stayed with him, too), back via Wilson Valley Road and Sage Road. This was our long "standard ride" for years. Traffic was light, we flew. It was my buddy's first time on a bike on Palomar, he was amazed. For those who have not been there, it's about 20 miles of endless blind switchbacks as you go from 2000 to 6000 feet and back down on East Grade.

Then on Sunday, wifey and I took our Miata out on that same ride....the traffic was just terrible! Got stuck behind seven school buses going up Palomar, for instance. I figured everyone would be in front of their TVs. Oh well, it's karma I guess.

But most of the way we could see three different snow-capped mountain ranges, and the weather was just perfect. Sorry I did not stop to take pics, though.

Yeah! Karma for owning a miata.

my motto: I speed up for corners

I am no longer impressed by horsepower alone. That, unlike driving skill, anyone can buy. I'll admit that our Miata is not stock, it has some power and suspension upgrades. Plus, it matches the Strada!

Wifey had wanted one for years. It's our four-wheeled motorcycle, and I have no trouble hanging with the bikes going up Palomar in it. In fact one a-hole blocked me most of the way up by parking his Kawi sportbike entering every turn and the gassing it between them. Must have had chicken strips two inches wide. WTF is wrong with people? I run a pace. If you catch me, yours is quicker and I will let you by. If the situation is reversed, sooner or later I will get by. Why fight it?

Don't knock it if you haven't tried one...it goes damned well, not many bikes are quicker in a corner. And with the retractable hard top down I can run the heater or A/C and be perfectly comfortable in any weather. Angeles Crest in freezing rain, for example!
