Bars feel loose... normal?

My handlebars have play in them. If I push forward, they seem to be flexing where the mounting trees meet the triple clamp. The flex is considerable. 1/2" of play at the grips.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I wonder if it is more for vibration isolation (comfort) or just a ****** design?

They move. Your handlebars are rubber mounted to isolate vibrations. If you are here saying your handlebars don't move - then you never looked or noticed.

I went to the dealer to look at bikes and noticed a Hyperstrada with crooked bars. Pointed it out to salesman. He just pulled up them and straightened them. Super loose and noodly.

The bars are rubber mounted. Under the triple clamp, are the nuts holding the bars down. Tighten them and the bars will move less loosen them and the bars will move more.

You're right - I never noticed. I wouldn't call them loose, but they do move a bit at the risers. Live and learn.
