Many eschew the notion of being connected with other riders by voice. Relying on ancient hand signals to share important communications.

On my group rides every rider is required to have B2B GMRS radio communication. Connected by wire, or Bluetooth, there are a number of ways to do this.

Why? Safety mostly, for obvious reasons. On my rides we all spread out to ride our own ride. Sometimes there is a question about route or concern about a rider. These GMRS radios have the range to be effective in connecting.

What is it like?

We have been running Scala Rider Q9s for years now, up to a mile range, stream music take phone calls and text all from the comfort of your own helmet.

If I was going to run 2 way communications I would utilize my amateur radio license and go that route.

So back when I had a friend to ride with, we bought autocom brand communication units. They had a set up for communications that used a GMRS radio. Worked like a charm. http://autocom.co.uk/

I use a Sena 10 something now with Bluetooth as I mostly ride by myself. :)
