Broken Pannier bracket

I've been enjoying the Hyperstrada since June, but this issue was just recently resolved:
On THE VERY FIRST DAY of owning the Hyper, I was pushing it out of the garage and mis-calculated the turn radius to have the pannier clear the door opening. The left pannier bumped against the garage door frame. A quick inspection revealed no visible damage. It wasn't until I arrived at work that I noticed that the plastic bracket on the pannier had cracked. It was a very mild impact and I was surprised at the degree of damage. It didn't seem to affect the function and the dealer said the replacement cost was $160.00! I thought it should be replaced under warrantee, but I let it be. Then I decided to glue up the crack. When I removed the bracket from the pannier, it completely fell apart. So I called the dealer and ordered a new one. It finally came in early Sept. (3 months later). It comes as a L/R set. I used the existing lock cylinder and the bags look and work like new.
This is a cautionary tale to avoid impact with your panniers. But if you crack your right side bracket, I'll give you a great deal on a replacement :)

That's ridicules!
The first time any real pressure is applied to the locking mechanism it fails! Ducati Fail!! Crappy lock mechanism that should have been lubed at assembly to function properly wasn't then it's made of plastic so its light I get it but prone to breaking at a moment's notice! Ducati Fail!! Ducati Fail!!

whoa, whoa, whoa. I've bumped/drug my panniers against: cement gas station pylon, garage door track, walls and a fence post. The cement pylon was a pretty hard whack, too.

No broken brackets and I actually praised the fact that the bags are just soft enough to give under mild pressure.

The lock mechanisms blow, we all agree on that. But the overall design is decent and I think a lot of you are forgetting that bags round out the "good value" package that is the Strada. It's already been proven on this site that outfitting a base Motard would cost more than similarly equipped Strada. Oh, next available model with panniers standard is the $20,000 Multi...

Talk to Ducati and your dealers about issues with the bags so they know what to work on for future releases. I addressed a couple concers I had with my bags and they said if the parts fail within 2 year warranty - new bags.

and I wouldn't knock your dealer or Duc for not replacing under warranty. I mean, you did hit something. The right dealer and the right story could have gotten you new parts but not likely if you lead off with "I ran into my garage..."

I pull them off every day I ride. I've also lubed the locks/channels since my last impact. They're 4.0

Granted, my impacts were more grazing than fully catching front face of the bag. Like, it didn't stop me in my tracks. More like caught the corner and then drug down the side. My right side brushed silver badge is very scratched up and both sides have witness marks from other impacts.

Well I went down in the dirt with the bags on and when I took them off I didn't notice anything unusual guess I'll have to look more closely...
