Cell phone bar mount

Wanted to get opinions on phone mount options. Been out of the game for a while - like, when cell phones were a luxury item or kept in glove boxes for "emergencies".

I have a Galaxy S3 that I use for everything while driving: phone, tunes, gps, etc. My strada will be a long daily commuter and whle the idea of cutting the chord during transit sounds nice, I like my nav function and don't want to take the chance of dropping my phone to see who called at a stop light.

I checked the ram mounts but I don't want to rock a giant otterbox style case - hate big cases. It's pricey, but I'm partial to this UK universal setup:

Look at this:

I have the same for my Iphone and I tried it last saturday om my Strada but I think I need a small extra mount :

because - mine opinion - the case (when horizontal) comes to close to the handprotection attachement. With the extra mount you can place it in the centre of the bar. I orded also an USB-charger for the left charger (behind left sidepanel) but the problem is that it is a small 12v charger on the bike. I think i have to look for an adapter for the USB.

Another issue with using a phone on the bike is that the touchscreen is not glove friendly (doesn't work at all). One work around is to get some conductive thread and stitch it into the fingertip of your riding gloves. Personally, I like the Garmin motorcycle specific GPS units. They are glove friendly, easier to see in sunlight, waterproof, easier to program for trip planning. I use my iPhone (kept in my pocket) for phone calls and music. Those tasks can be performed via bluetooth (Sena SMH10) and voice commands. Thats what works for me.

All good input. However, sticking with phone because I don't want to have to un-mount and lug around/pack a GPS everytime I park. I feel comfortable leaving the soft case attached to mount, and if someone takes it, I'll buy a hard case that phone stays in.

I could always buy touch friendly gloves or make a removable finger tip. The google maps nav beta spoken directions work great with my BT headphones, muting music for turns.

Honestly, I just don't travel outside my normal route enough daily to warrant the extra hassle of standalone GPS.

Now if i just had a sweet new bike to go with all these toys...

Cheers

Got the Ultimate Add On's all weather case for my S5. I liked the soft case for my old S3 but it was not water proof and just broke down from use. This case is very robust. Serious water tight gasket and with button function and access to all ports. The buttons are large and have good tactile response which work amazing in gloves. It's a tad long but you can add a charger cord that maintains protection. The touch-screen window is fairly rigid and works perfect but I wonder if it's replaceable in case it gets scratched up bad over time. The locking levers are super robust and it locks down with a very solid and progressive "thunk". Really impressed and cheaper all in than the RAM system.

i just use ram mount and a standard case, and don't have the phone out and mounted if riding in the rain.

you could always put the phone in a ziploc bag if it is going to rain. the ram mount works great though.

wiring power to it this weekend.

I had an ultimate addons mount and case for my iPhone 5 but since getting an iPhone 6 i now have a garmin zumo so have no need to mount my phone anymore so have used the ball mount for the zumo.

Great cases and you can plug the cable into the power socket quite easily if you don't want to splice into the wiring.

My sister has a RAM and I think the UAO is better in quality, functionality and cheaper. Between the S5 inherent waterproofing and the all-weather case, I'm not worried about the phone at all. Only draw back is paying for shipping from UK but, it got here in a week, which was mind blowing.

I got iOttie One-Touch Bike Mount Holder for $20.00 on amazon. Had it for 3000 miles and it's been fine so far.
Now I'm looking for the mount with integrated wireless Qi charging.
