clutch engaged, kickstand up, in gear - wont start

The other night I installed a power commander and everything was good. It was very very late at night when i finished so during testing I might have missed this. But I dont think so.

Today I was installing Pazzo levers. Got the clutch on, went to start the bike and nothing. Starts fine in neutral every time. Clutch in and in gear though, it wont start. So my first fix was to put the old lever back on. That didn't fix anything.

So now I have a bike that runs perfectly, but wont start in gear. What did I break?

There's a microswitch near the clutch lever. It simply pops into place by a small plastic clip. I bet it's either not adjusted right or it fell off.

I can post photos later if you need.

Photos would be great so that I can tell if mine has popped off. What I saw when I was testing looked like a AA battery terminal. Little silver thing. Really hard to tell if it's on properly or broken though.

I wouldn't be surprised if I mucked it up because I was doing it alone and the clutch cable got away from me a couple times.

No worries about hurrying or anything, being a holiday and all. Pazzo sent me the wrong front brake lever anyway, so It'll be a few days before a replacement comes.

Anyway, really appreciate it!

why would you want to start the bike in gear??
Or are you saying it stalls/kills engine when you pull the clutch and put it in gear??

Definitely not the kickstand sensor because I can kill the engine by putting the stand down. It is either to do with that little switch on the lever housing or the power commander. My money is on the switch.

I posted some photos of the switch here. It makes an audible "click" noise when it's pressed, and it's supposed to be open when the lever is pulled, closed when the lever isn't.

thanks for this. mine looks exactly like that which makes me really confused. maybe I flattened it out somehow and it isnt clicking to engage? rainy day today so I'm gonna figure this out

The good news is I fixed it thanks to your picture, monocog. I removed the entire assembly so I could look at it from the top and noticed that the little switch behind the metal strip was depressed. So after tinkering with it for too long with my neighbor, I removed the switch and sprayed it with wd40 and stuck a pick into the hole and it popped back out. Took it for a ride and all is well. Bike is backfiring now for no apparent reason, but at least I can start it in gear...

Thanks again!
