Clutch switch rev limit

Based on previous experience I know that the bike limits revs to 8500k or so if it thinks the clutch lever is pulled in. At first glance this makes sense, but, as I found during my road trip, this results in annoying behavior if running the bike to redline and I'm not sure if it's expected behavior or if something is wrong.

Basically I found while doing a top speed attempt that shifting above 8500 would cause the bike to intervene and cut the revs for a moment after I shifted causing the bike to lurch a bit. This was not pleasant at 100 suffice to say. Known issue, do I need to be quicker with my shifts (I think I'm pretty smooth) or should the bike know it's moving and not limit the revs in this case?

I can't say I've ever noticed this phenomenon, and I've taken it above 8500 so many times I couldn't count them all.

You might try shifting differently, like you said. Preload the shifter (apply pressure upwards) just slightly with your foot, and simultaneously blip the throttle closed and pull in the clutch a couple inches. Should quickly and smoothly hit the next gear, no harm done.

I can attest that is not normal behavior. I crack 100 barrier daily while shifting and it doesn't behave abnormally.

What you're describing kinda sounds like if you milk or ham-fist the non-judder spring clutch but, I see you're driving a '15 and I've only experienced this at low speed/ low gears.

I'm actually on an '18 now. It seems like a problem, and has me wondering if it is related to the CEL and limp mode I got earlier in the trip. Essentially, I'd wind it up to 9k or so, pull in the clutch and shift and I'd see the red light flash as if I was hitting the rev limiter. The strange part is, it'd keep fighting the revs for a bit after it was in gear and I'm quite certain the wheel wasn't spinning. Managed to do it in 2, 3 and 4, didn't like the idea of hitting that again so I shifted below 8500 to 5th and 6th and the bike pulled just fine until I decided 135 was fast enough. it certainly seems like a sensor or switch issue as opposed to anything mechanical.

Sounds like it could be a problem with the clutch switch (located on the clutch lever). I had similar symptoms, the switch is held in place by two pins, and these pins had broken. This resulted in the switch moving in the mount and activating at nonsensical times. A shot of super glue fixed it up.

Huh, maybe that is it. The switch was initially not working with the Pazzo levers so I needed to bend the spring steel a bit to ensure it engaged when the lever was released. Maybe I need to "adjust" it further so it engages sooner after the lever is released.

Regarding the limiter flash between shifts, there's an old thread where we debated this. I think it's common to see one flash when you pull the clutch to shift, but might only be when running near redline. I know I see it often between gears, and I'm often near redline.

Well, I took the bike out last night and found a road where I could get a few shifts in above 9k without getting too much attention. Smooth as butter. I have to guess I might have been either too slow to shift, too close to redline or not blipping the throttle enough and hitting redline when I unloaded the engine for the shift. I guess I need to spend more time around redline to, ahem, practice :-D

I have that switch broken as well. When i cant start the bike in gear. I open clutch lever and found it break apart. I cut and put 2 wires together. Later when i do hard acceleration the rev limited kick in at 8000 rpm, thought my bike has problem until i know this [emoji23]

The rev limited kick in at 8000rpm because the ecu think your bike in N and you just try wreck it by rev it redline,so the protection come.
