I live in Camarillo, CA but work about 5 miles from the notorious Rock Store. Have been into two wheels all my life, pedal or motor types. After a 25yr hiatus from motorcycles got back into them about three years ago. First it was a Honda Shadow cruiser because I'd only ever owned dirt bikes and sport bikes and didn't know better, well and I thought it would be safer also. Yea, that lasted 4 months. Couldn't take draggin' stuff in the corners while following a minivan.. Then, still trying to stay with something that wouldn't bring out the hooligan in me I got a Harley XR1200. Say what you will but there was something about it that I really liked. It was terrible two up and that meant the better half hated it. Soooooo, I got a '08 Kawasaki Concours used with a fair amount of farkles already in place. Great for two up but a bit big and heavy for my daily 20 mile commute. Due to health reasons the wife has decided to stay off the motorcycle, no damn it 'health reason' is not my drivin' but don't ask her. Well if all my riding will be solo and most of it commuting the Hyperstrada is looking really good. Comments?

I think the Hyperstrada will be a great commuter and weekend play toy with the ability to do overnighters. At least that is why I am getting one. I looked that the 800 Tiger roadie but felt it fell just short of what I am after (close though).:D

Thanks Stradasphere. Saw your CB350 in the hobby thread in The Lounge section. Nice!!

Welcome to the forum! I am coming from sport bikes as well. Low-side on a track: multiple rib fractures, separated shoulder, etc. later... I was looking for a bike that will handle the twisties, fire road, short trip, and have a nice design. I looked at the ktm 990, bmw f800gs, tiger800, ktm duke 690. I choose the hyper. I liked the scale, design, performance, and all around ability.

Why Hyperstrada

I have been on a V-STROM 650 since 2007 and it is a wonderful machine. I am choosing the Hyperstrada because it will be more fun. It has some attributes I want for commuting and some I want for fun. There is a lot more power than the STROM for sure. I was considering middleweight adventure touring machines for a change from current ride and the Ducati just seemed to fit my needs. I think for SoCal roads, the hyperstrada provides a great machine to go through the canyons and ride an hour to work. Best of luck choosing. It will be my first Ducati, a brand of bike I have always wanted to own.
