Front sprocket rubber ring purpose?

What's the purpose of the rubber ring on the stock front sprocket? I have a spare Superlite without the rubber ring and wondering what difference it makes.

Quiets it down a bit. Helps with noise regulation requirements. You will find some bikes have sound deadening on the sprocket cover and clutch cover to further reduce sound.

Ok, if it's just for sound, then I'll just use the one I have considering how loud my exhaust is.

One thing to check before you install is that the splines fit as tightly as OEM. I have seen some aftermarket sprockets that are a little loose fitting and they wear out the countershaft over time.

Desmo Times used to sell a matched basket and clutch pack combo for Ducati's that were machined to exact tolerances to prolong basket life, but they no longer sell them due to manufacturing cost.
