Ground clearance on the Strada

Do the Hypermotard / Hypermotard SP have increased ground clearance as compared to the regular strada ?

Yes.

Increased suspension travel and thus ground clearance.

Here in India we have crazy non standard speed- breakers on many roads. Two up with luggage , the exhaust bend pipe takes a knock every time even with max pre-load dialed in on the rear. My front suspension also bottoms regularly on undulating roads at moderately high speeds , specially while braking. The way I see it , Replacing the cartridges gives me some amount of tunability.
I also have the option of pitching for a set of Hypermotard forks for greater ground clearance and then putting in the cartridges later .
The other option is to buy an Ohlins front end from the 939 SP complete with the triple clamp set.
Your thoughts on these choices ??

I know the SP would have been the best choice for me but there is an 8000 USD difference in price between the Thailand made Strada / Motard and the Italian SP. Here a Multistrada 1200 S would cost about the same as the SP... All attributable to a customs and excise duty tax on imported motorcycles.

2 Up and luggage on a Hyperstrada? Your choice as a fully loaded touring bike?

I added a rear pipe bash plate to the center stand. Thread elsewhere here on that.

Raising the bike by replacing the suspension is an option, but is that what you really want? The increased seat height?

The SP has nose bleed seat height.

My Hypermotard seat height Hyperstrada has benefited by replacing the fork cartridges and rear shock. Thread description here too.

Not really a fully loaded tourer. On longer rides i prefer riding alone. But there are times when i ride with a pillion and the bike ground clearance feels less then ideal. The roads in the Northern state of Uttarakhand can be tricky with a beautiful blacktop section suddenly leading into a 'speed breaker' or a completely unpaved section that has been hit by landslides. Given the performance of the 821 , there are times when the bottoming fork or the impact on the underside of the bike are quite concerning.

I did add the bash plate after reading your posts on advrider. Many thanks! The problem is that with the bash plate , i lose another 14 mm of clearance and though the exhaust is safe, the bash plate does take a hit.

I am tall enough to be completely 'feet on the ground' when seated on the regular Strada and the added height( 1-2" ) should not cause any problems. Now it seems to have boiled down to -

1. Hypermotard forks with the Mupo / Andreani cartridges
2. Complete SP front end

And finally rear shock replacement as soon as the wallet allows it.

The added ground clearance will let me ride with much greater confidence.....

The SP's seat is at 35", that's three more than the Strada. If you raise the front that much without doing similar at the back it will really slow down the steering response. Cartridges and a stiffer rear spring would be my choice.

Looked long and hard at all my options and it does come back to the Hypermotard forks with a set of MUPO cartridges and a 150mm travel rear shock (up from my current 130mm travel ). What i need from the experts on this forum is information on any other parts that I may need to change.
Currently , I have this list made up -
Desc. Hyperstrada Part Number Hypermotard Part No.
Side Stand 55610711AA 55610691AA
Main Stand 55P0331B Modify existing stand ..... ??
Shock Absorber 36521241A 36521141A
Right Fork Assembly 34420521A 34420501A
Left Fork Assembly 34520551A 34520501A

Mupo A01DUC047 - AB1 rear shock
Mupo C04DUC047 LCRR Cartridge Kit

I know this will be very expensive but I really like the bike , plan to keep it long term and will phase the upgrades in slowly. I would really appreciate and advice or pointers from any forum members with experience in fitting these parts.

I've encountered clearance problems on my '14 HS. I've heard this is a common complaint, due to my weight (with gear, around 190lbs/86kgs) being in excess of Ducati's assumption of rider weight. IOW, getting the right spring rates, front & rear, will provide huge relief. That said, I'm also planning on doing Mupo cartridges this Winter.

Precisely. I've got Ohlins with custom springs on both ends and I have to be extremely determined to scrap anything anywhere. It actually feels like an achievement on the rare occasions when it happens. But the stock springs are way too soft for an average man and most people end up riding with insufficient ride height, especially in the rear. I had almost 50 mm sag on the stock spring even with preload wounded all the way up (which made the ride very harsh).
