Hard to find Neutral

Hello, I bought new Hyperstrada. So far 100km and I have hard time to find Neutral position. In store they told me it's normal for the bike is new and will get better with time. Any ideas ? Thanks all

Mine was the same way - shifting seemed clunky. with neutral sometimes being hard to find. After over 4K miles it shifts better and neutral is easier to find, but IMO it's not the best tranny on the market.

I never had that problem either with R1 R6 CBR999 and Kawasaki 250 supermotard.
This is my first Ducati so I'm asking myself if this is typical for that kind of engine ... not sure
not much experience ...

pacaver .... did you try to do some adjustment ?

Yes, the bike seems sensitive to free play at the clutch lever compared to other bikes I've owned. If it's out of adjustment shifting and finding neutral is noticeably rougher.

see other threads on here regarding neutral difficult to find.
Usually it's just a case of adjusting the clutch cable.

Same issue on my hypermotard. It is slowly improving and I have not yet played around with the adjustment Should try that

Quick update. Adjusted the clutch as per the service manual last night. This morning it's a totally different machine. Shifts smoothly, no hassle finding neutral when stopped, no clunking :) Easy fix!

on a related note of shifting gears in different footgear.... I had been riding my HS mainly in heavy hiking boots. Late this summer I got new boots - I ended up with Cortech perforated racing boots after several returns of mid-length motoboots of various high-end brands that just did not fit my feet well... With the new boots I found I neeeded to adjust the shift lever a bit higher again (I had lowered it earlier to more easily avoid false neutrals...). The racing boots vastly improved shifting as well as overall comfort and fit with the foot pegs and leg angle. The main difference, I believe, is the sharper angle of the racing boots. In most mid-length boots or in any street shoes/hiking boots (or anything other than good ski boots) my feet are too close to 90 deg. for this bike. My shifting and foot/leg comfort are much improved with the smaller angle of the racing boots... as a plus, the thicker/firmer shift lever pad on the racing boots make it easier to give firm and quick shifts that avoid false neutrals, and even make it easier to find actual neutral. Now I am no longer in the market for new rear sets, because of how much better the racing boots work for me...

I picked mine up today. The gear box is sweet, changes are very smooth and no probs finding neutral. I did find that it's requires a very gentle nudge up from first to find neutral.

Yama Hu, at the clutch lever on the handlebar. According to the service manual you should have the bike on the side stand and the steering all the way to the right Then adjust the free play to a gap of between 2 and 3 mm

I have it at about 3 and it makes a huge difference Selecting neutral with the bike stopped and engine running is now easy and shifting is a lot smoother I am sure I can still get it better Will try again next weekend when I am back home again Good luck!

Thanks Gandalf ... I didn't know about bike must be on side stand with steering all the way to the right ... Tomorrow I'll try

No problem, let me know if you manage to get it sorted out. If not I will try to extract the information from the manual for you when I am back home again

hi guys perhaps you can help me here, i love the hyperstrada but since i bought it from a friend, i have never managed to put it on neutral unless i have the stands down. any suggestions? if you guys have pics of your clutch cable positions please help me. any tips on how nd what to adjust would be greatly appreciated

i also have a ducati monster so im very familiar with the clunky clutch of the ducati, this is the only bike i have that im having a hard time with neutral. its very hard whe i am stuck in traffic. the unit has 6500km mileage only.

thank you very much in advance.
