on a related note of shifting gears in different footgear.... I had been riding my HS mainly in heavy hiking boots. Late this summer I got new boots - I ended up with Cortech perforated racing boots after several returns of mid-length motoboots of various high-end brands that just did not fit my feet well... With the new boots I found I neeeded to adjust the shift lever a bit higher again (I had lowered it earlier to more easily avoid false neutrals...). The racing boots vastly improved shifting as well as overall comfort and fit with the foot pegs and leg angle. The main difference, I believe, is the sharper angle of the racing boots. In most mid-length boots or in any street shoes/hiking boots (or anything other than good ski boots) my feet are too close to 90 deg. for this bike. My shifting and foot/leg comfort are much improved with the smaller angle of the racing boots... as a plus, the thicker/firmer shift lever pad on the racing boots make it easier to give firm and quick shifts that avoid false neutrals, and even make it easier to find actual neutral. Now I am no longer in the market for new rear sets, because of how much better the racing boots work for me...
