How to make the seat more comfortable for a long (2600 mi or 4300km) trip?

I find the stock seat feels uncomfortable beyond about 200 miles or so. The footpegs also start feeling cramped, but at least I can stand up to alleviate. What are your solutions outside of a dedicated seat like Corbin, etc?

I have a jell pad, i put on the seat on longer trips, really seems to make the difference.

compression shorts with padding can help.
I started looking at those just in the past hour. Apparently, there are motorcycle-specific versions that are more comfortable, too. Will post some brands here after I check them out.

Mine Was just a generic gel pad you would have installed under you're seat I got it for like $20 and had my mom who does allot of sewing make a vinyl pouch for it with two elastics that go around the seat to keep it in place, very simple and it worked awesome on long trips. Comes rite off if I want the clean stock look.

Bought the touring seat at the dealer and it is fantastic!
The leather is gorgeous and the foam and shape are a huge improvement over stock. There are a couple of seat upgrade options. My buddy bought the racing seat and that looks pretty sweet too.

That's the one area a lot of people overlook, underwear. If you're using cotton, it absorbs moisture and you get a sore rear. When I switched to using synthetic shorts it made a world of difference on long rides. I had a friend with a Guzzi who complained about monkey butt syndrome on long rides and was considering a new seat. I told him before he changes his seat he should change his underwear (to synthetics). He was astounded at the difference and is now happy with his stock seat. Below is a company which makes motorcycle specific shorts, but I found that the Merino brand synthetic version at Target worked well for me.

Good point. I've switched to all synthetics for this reason, and because on longer trips I can wash them and they'll be dry in 2 minutes. Less to carry. This is for tops and briefs. One thing about the briefs is to make sure you get them with longish legs - ****** tighty type (bikini) will bind on your inner thighs and hurt.

I picked up some head briefs at a discount store for $5 a pair - no need for fancy stuff.

Have you already checked the Airhawk cushion?
Loads of 'em on eBay. Prices vary a lot and so do the versions/models but I thinks it's worth a try.

I find the stock seat the most comfortable I have had on any bike, but we are all different. A bike I previously had was very uncomfortable to the point of being unbearable, so I had the seat reworked by Seth Laam (google him) and the transformation was amazing. I live in the UK, but sent my seat to California for him to do it, and will have no hesitation doing so again if I get a future bike that is not comfortable.
