I had the "pleasure" of getting low-speed rear-ended recently, and the bike had to go down on its right side while near-immobile.

Besides having the license plate ripped off, the plate holder wedged into their grille, the fender loose, turn signals hanging by wires, and a crack in my tire, it was mostly just scratches.

- Bolted-on plate at the front of the muffler scratched
- Both rider & passenger foot pegs scratched at hinge
- Rear brake lever bent upwards at the rubber
- Scratches at end of handlebar

I hit the kill switch before having the car back its bumper off my sideways wheel, picked it up easily (adrenalin?) and and moved to a safe spot with the signals wedged into the side bag mount. Just wanted to pass on my first incident to the board and some knowledge I learned.

Minor scrapes on my right leg, probably from the pegs, so no worries here.

That sucks man and if it makes you feel any better I was in a low speed "incident" with mine. Didn't lay it down but important for everyone.

Get a front axle slider on you're bikes!! The mont that holds the front fender on is small and weak cast aluminum. To replace it costs the whole fork leg, about $650 CAD to make new.

I didn't have the bags on my bike, and don't expect them to hold the weight of the bike when on the ground or survive at all during a low-side.

Man that sucks. Glad you made it well. Didn't the car driver seen you?

I had my bike on it's (left) side once with it's bags. It was stationary at a gas station so the bags hold the weight of the bike without problems. They're pretty sturdy. A good thing since they cost about a thousand dollars to replace. Other than that a little scratch on the hand guard was reported and that's it. I was quite happy of the outcome.

I am amazed you didn't lose a mirror. Usually the first thing to go and designed to cost you $100 if you even look at them wrong.

Little advice: if you plan to fix yourself, try heating the rear brake lever before bending back out. The aluminum will just snap if you torque with pliers (same for shifter)...and it's another $100.

I had the pleasure of dropping mine into my new car. Muffler guard got scratched but you can just sharpie that or hit with a little flat black rattle can.

I tipped over trying to get the kickstand up (that's what happens with us short guys with tall bikes). It broke the mirror, hand guard, bent the foot brake and scratched the heat shield. I'm surprised that your mirrors and hand guard didn't snap off. More important, good to see no damage to you!
