Just a few pics of some changes. I really liked the look of the motard tail section and didn't plan on putting on a top case so I cut the grab handles off and sanded and shaped the tail pieces, primed and put down four color coats and three coats of clear. A little wet sanding and buffing and they look almost identical to the motard pieces, but still have the panniers mounts. The seat is from a 13' sp that I bought on here and reshaped the seat foam by cutting out the stock foam and added some sunmate memory foam. 1" of firm for the base and topped with 1/2" of soft and the seat is soooooo much more comfortable, I can go 150 miles before my but even starts to get sore. Let me know what you think?

Looks good ... but hard to see as your pics are TINY thumbnails. If you post them from a photo hosting site like SmugMug you can make them BIG!

I'd like to have my seat modified too! But I suck at doing such projects.

you did a great job on that tail, it looks factory. I thought myself of getting a motard tail I'm sure they'd fit, the bike needs that splash of red on the tail but I take my girlfriend on the back all the time so the grab handles are good.
 
You can get the motard tail pieces but you will need to get the bracket that they mount to also, as it is not the same one as the strada. Another option is to get some speed nuts and use them. The difference between the brackets is our bracket has sleeves for the bolts to go through and then they screw into the grab handles. The motard bracket has nuts in place of the sleeves as this is how that bracket is secured to the bike and the tail pieces screw to the braket in three places. I have some pics that show how to use speednuts and the screws to avoid buying the bracket.
 
I have always thought about doing this for my "˜16 hyper sp. Going back and forth on getting everything I need for a winter project. It looks really good on how you did it.

Just got myself a spare grab rail to cut down any tips on cutting and shaping it?

hyper tail pieces

I used a hacksaw to cut off the posts as close to the base as possible. When you do get them off you will find that there are holes in the molding that you will have to fill. These are air bubbles from the injection molding process. I filled mine in with filler primer, but you could use a two part epoxy. It will take some patience to get everything blended in. I recommend using a die grinder to get the cutoff sections close to the base, say 1/8" to the base and then hand sand with a sanding block starting with 180 grit and be careful not to scuff the rest of the piece too much. Once the stalks are gone I would scuff the rest of the surface with 400 grit and apply your first coat of primer. Once you get there message me and I will help you from there.

When it comes to painting the parts I had no previous experience. I watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9xLqJ1ANJM and a couple others on youtube and then I tried it myself. A few pointers I can give you are sanding is key to the finish but dont be too critical until you start wet sanding the color coats. Be careful to sand the edges first and very carefully, they are the areas that are easiest to burn through the color and have to repaint. The color I used was duplicolor toyota super red II with a white primer underneath. I would recommend at least 3 coats of primer and 3 of paint. You can wet sand and then buff the last coat or add clear coat and then wetsand w/2000 grit and then use a buffing compound, then a polishing, and finally a swirl remover. When using a orbital polisher make sure to use new bonnetts for each compound. Im sure that you will have questions as you go so feel free to contact me.

I just noticed, you're from Cheshire. I'm from Stockton Heath in Cheshire. Live in the US now though.
 
I've been wanting to wrap the center tank insert. It's gotten dull and spotted from fuel splash. Probably do the front/ rear mudguards while I'm at it. They make some decent faux-CF prints now.

Mine started to do that too, so I sprayed some 303 protectant on it and it's nice n dark now :)
