Hypermotard/strada or Tiger 800?

I've been eyeing the Triumph tiger 800 (and their street triple) for some time now... but the dealer here doesn't have T800 roadie yet they only have the XC, which to be honest will be a bit too much for me... cause I don't think I will do off road riding. The closest thing to off road will be ride on unpaved road or fire road or road with pot holes :D

So which one would you get: 2013 Hypermotard/strada or Tiger 800 roadie? and why?
Intended use for daily commute, spirited ride on weekends and 2 up touring.

thanks,
bob

Tiger 800 or Strada ??

I have been waiting for Ducati to bring out a bike like the Hyperstrada for a while, and in the meantime took a test ride on the Tiger 800 last year just to see if I could get on with the riding position etc. The bike is so easy to ride, it took just 5 mins to realise what a good bike it is. Then last month got to sit on the Hyperstrada and sorry to say it is just not doing it for me, I hope to get a test ride in the next month or so, but right now if I do change it will be the MOnster 1100 EVO or the Tiger 800. Tiger is really good value too.

tiger 800 or hyperstrada

Hi
I have a Triumph Tiger 800 at present and it is a great bike, very easy to ride and a good engine. I bought the tiger because I Ducati did not have a mid size bike for touring (the Multisrada 1200 I felt was big for my needs). I have done 2 European tours with the bike, it now has 10000 miles on clock and can fully recommend the bike.
I am intending trading the Tiger for a Hyperstrada. I have a test ride on sunday 14th of April and hopefully I will not be disappointed.

It's not the same

The Tiger 800 it's not the same it has no style, the sound the handling if you think are the same as a Ducati you should buy a chinese bike are cheaper and also have two wheels:D

The taste whats look good is dif for all.
Tiger is bigger and heavy if you compair it to Hyperstrada.
It has less HP and torq, but all in all Tiger is a great bike.

It all comes down to what you get.. Bike / money..
When you have tryed them both you know what is + or - for them.

Buddy of mine has an 800XC that I rode for a good 20 minutes once and it was like what you all have said here. Comfortable smooth quiet predictable well engineered heavy and boring it just had no sole it even had Leo Vance cans on it and still had no sole but to each his own.

I had been looking at the Tiger 800 roadie and that is what I was going to buy until Ducati came out with the Hyperstrada. I like the looks of the strada better. Power delivery on the Tiger was smooth and linear but not exciting. Looking at the power curve on the strada, I think it will have that thrill factor. But won't know until I light it up. There is nothing wrong with the Tiger that I see, just my preference for Ducati.

Thanks guys. My sales guy told me that they won't have hyperstrada until June.
Hyperjon, please let us know how the test ride goes.

I could not get over all of the plastic on the Tiger. For me, I preferred the design (and lack of plastic add on pieces) on the Hyper. There is no doubt in my mind for a long, multi- day trip, the Tiger would be more comfortable. I owned a Triumph Daytona (great bike. Triumph makes a great product). If I was planning to take long, long trips, with some dirt fire road riding, I would buy the bmw f800 gs. That was the other bike I was considering. It was a tough decision. After riding the GS, (I still own a f650 gs commuter), I felt the F800 was not going to let me enjoy the twisties like the Hyper. Heavier, with the bike geometry set up for moderate off road riding.
Yeah, your dealer stating the Hyper will arrive in June is my concern.... but, I feel the bike will be worth the wait.

Bob's in Indonesia. I can handle a bump to May from US dealer estimates of April, but June turn my feelings of excitement into "just give me the damn bike so I can leave".

I've got a hyperstrada on order over the tiger purely because the Tiger just doesn't do it for me, I'm really not a huge fan of that adventure style of bike.

Just back from my test ride of the hyperstrada in edinburgh.
very nice bike, great engine, great handling.
going to do the deal and trade the tiger
the bikes are quite different
the tiger has smoother engine, though less character
the tiger is a longer bike but the seat is lower to the ground and has a more relaxed riding position, more suited for touring
the hyper is shorter reach to handlebars and taller (i am 5'7" and could not get feet flat on ground, so have ordered the low model and low seat.
if you are looking for an all rounder bike the tiger would be better option, the hyper is more focused and more sporty, and it is not far away from the original hypermotard 1100

Hyperjon, you know the lowest ride height setting on standsard is just a tick above 31" seat height. I figure with rider weight sag, a 30" inseam person will fit pefect on it.

Thanks very much hyperjon. With the sitting position of the hyper, do you think long ride will be comfortable on it?

The seat was firm but I think it would be good for touring.
You did not slide on it like the existing Hypermotard 1100 as it is more shaped.
Really depends on how you are going to use the bike, if it is mainly for fun and the odd long tour then I think it will be ok.

Hi Bob I've ridden a few hundred miles on both the Tiger 800 roadie and on the XC. Your instincts are right to go with the roadie if you don't plan on doing a lot of dedicated off-road riding. The two bikes handle completely differently on-road (I found the rear stepping out a bit much for my comfort on the XC when pushing hard), and if you want to make the standard even more roadworthy put some Pilot Road 3s on it. The XC is a good bike and I think looks better than its pavement-preferring counterpart with the wiry wheels complimenting its lean angular lines, but go for the roadie between these two for function's sake.
Second, I agree with jerdog - Tiger 800 has a long list of desirable traits, the top of which has to be its uncannily comfortable ergos. I swear Triumph unlocked some divine code to come up with the riding position on this bike; it's the only bike I've ever been on where my back actually felt better after the ride than before it! It's deceptively quick in the twisties, rides decently two-up with bags, and steers handily in town. Also it has the smoothest transmission I've ever used. But at the end of the day, that bike to me is just a list of desirable traits. It completely misses the intangible experience I seek when I throw a leg over a motorcycle. The impossibly plush ergos and silky smoothness of the engine leave me feeling like I'm in an episode of the Twilight Zone on a ride that's been predetermined for me, like I'm not the author of the story I'm living out. If ever there were a doppelganger to the Hyper 1100, the Tiger 800 is it.
You say you're considering the new Street Triple - the R is a hands-down class crusher. I've smoked everything from Hypers to R6s to Panigales in the twisties on a shop demo. If you're looking for something to just have a riot on, buy that! But if you're going to ride two-up, this bike will leave lots to be desired. Have you ridden the Speed Triple 1050? Good luck keeping that front wheel down AND it's comfy enough to ride cross-country with a duffle bag on back or two-up on a day trip.
I can't speak on the new Hyper yet but as many have already said here, choose the right tool for the job. I'd recommend you demo the new Hyper and sleep on it, be honest with yourself and determine how much you'll be riding one-up, how much two-up, and how much full-on touring. Then you'll know which one feels right for you and is best for what you want to do with your motorcycle.
A little long-winded but hopefully this helps, good luck!

Thanks diaperstrada.

I'm looking for a bike which can handle rough and bad road surface. I don't think my monster can handle that kind of road... well of course it can, if I ride really slow and carefully :D

My brother just got back from central Java... I live in Jakarta which located in the western part of Java, and he told me that the road condition, is quite bad.

Lots of potholes, washed away asphalt surface, which often happens (I think it's pretty normal down here) after or toward the end of rainy season. The road will be resurfaced and the potholes will be fixed but usually they wait until the rainy season is over.

Anyway, that's the road condition that I plan to ride the hyperstarda, or the T800, on. Potholes, washboards, road where the asphalt surface washed away by rain, roads where suspensions and suspension travels are really important.

I'm gonna wait until the dealer have one so that I can sit and do a demo ride on it to feel how it's like.

Bob795

If that type of roads are typical of your area I would suggest the Tiger would be the better bike. The suspension is softer and has more travel. Also it has a 19" front wheel which is more suited for rougher surfaces.

yup no-brainer, Tiger 800

Thanks guys.

Looking at pictures... cause I haven't seen on in person ... I find hyperstrada or Hypermotard espesscially that SP, is much more beautiful than Tiger 800 :D

Fortunately I still have until June to make up my mind ... and to make it a bit more complicated a friend of mine really wants to buy my Monster:D
Frankly I'm tempted to sell my Monster ... but it's really a great bike for commuting and I don't know how a Hypermotard or T800 will be for commuting in traffic jam.
