Hyperstrada Forks Question

I know the Hyperstrada fork has no adjustments, but does anyone know about the fork internals? Is it a cartridge fork that could be revalved to customer specs, or is it like the Hypermotard 796 (also 43mm) that can't even be disassembled?

I'm not doubting that you can remove the cap, pull out spring and change oil. I've just read reports that you can't disassemble/revalve the forks on a Hypermotard 796 like you can most modern forks on $10,000 motorcycles. And given that the Hyperstrada has 43mm forks (like the 796, and unlike the Hypermotard SP's 50mm), I am worried the same situation applies to the Hyperstrada.

See this excerpt on the 796:
'Traxxion dynamics . . . took them apart as far as they could go without breaking them. what they found out is the left fork leg is peened together and cant be taken apart and also the bottom of that leg is permanently joined together with the fork tube. so basically the forks cant be rebuilt in any way.'

I did not remove the bolt at the bottom or even check to see if there was one. Only removed the springs and measured, plus changed oil. I also changed the preload by 10mm. Right leg has PVC spacer, left has spring backed plunger which I also shortened 10mm. Both legs have a sleeve to contain the spring so it does not buckle.

Overall, my forks are pretty good, but still the weak link of the suspension when you push it hard in non-smooth corners. I am 185lbs without gear, and running 33f/34r locally.

Guy in my MSF class had a very nice 796 Motard. I saw his fronts weren't adjustable either...and his bike was 30 lbs lighter!

Hey SuperTen, did you remove the forks from the bike or just drain them while on the bike with a fork syringe

I took them off. Poured the oil into a measured beaker for ml/cc. Made measurements of everything for future changes/mods.

Ok thanks. I guess if I just wanted to change the fluid to a lighter weight I could siphon it out the top and refill. What do you think?

I wouldn't try it, even if you succeeded in getting all the oil out, how would you know? Also big chance of getting oil all over the bike, that would be a big mess!

The amount I got out did not equal what the owners manual states, so that did not help either.

Bottom line, Ducati wants us to bring the bike in for any of this, but I am not going to do that, sorry.

Hi SuperTen, new owner here. Please share what oil weight and Brand you used to replace the fork oil with I believe shell advance fork 7.5 to have a viscosity of 22 @ 40 Deg C .

Thanks in advance HNG

I was thinking the air cooled Multis had 43mm Ohlins, this is where I want to go.

I was thinking the same thing! I just don't know the length of the multi vs the stock. Did you ever get around to it?

Also Super what oil wait did you add? I assume like a 15wt? I believe stock is 5wt. I am looking to do the same thing.

Sorry to revive an old thread!

Forks

I'm 175 pound rider I don't really like my forks either but I can't really put my finger on what it's doing wrong seems like it moves too fast l would like to slow down the compression and rebound
I was thinking of putting in a spacer to get rid of the fork dive and heavier fork oil to slow things down what do you guys think:confused:
