Hyperstrada Heated Grip Kit

Yes, I actually got my heated grip kit today!!!! These kits are rarer than gold, and priced nearly as high. On the good side, it's a very nice kit and the bike has dedicated wiring for it. On the bad side, the throttle housing is held on by crazy star-type bolts while everything else is 3 & 4mm allens so invest in a special tool for that. Then once it's all installed it says to go to the diagnosis function for the BBS/DTC system and select the setting menu where it is possible to enable the heated handgrips. I've been all over the menu and this is not there. It requires the dealer to hookup the DTC tool and enable the grips to work. Great! Just when I thought I'd saved a bit of money by doing the install myself, and being told by the dealer that it's a plug-and-play accessory that needs no programming, I'm effed. I'll now have to venture to the dealer and ask them to enable the handgrips. Guess I'll continue on with cold hands until I can make that happen. Anyone else out there found a way around this???

It was known early on that dealer had to enable the heated grip function. Thing is, why? Why isn't it just enabled from the get go? Does it interfere with something if it's on but you don't have grips installed?

And I hope they don't charge you for this.

If I am not mistaken, the grips are activated/controlled by the starter button, and also displays its status on the pod. Not your run-of-the-mill heated add-on package.

Real question is, once activated in the computer, can you hook up cheaper aftermarket grips to it?

imo you are much better off putting on factory accessories, especially when it comes to sensitive things that get wired in, i am not talking bolt on things, more like heated grips, lights, etc, you pay a lot of cash for a high end bike and you want to save a few bucks to install cheap Chinese crap, just doesn't make sence

Where were the plugs for this? Did you have to remove the tank?

The plugs are tucked into each wire bundle underneath the windshield mount.. Just make sure you get the proper plug, it'll be labeled heat or grips. The instructions are pretty accurate for them.

As far as the new throttle grip sensor, make sure you take a few photos of the cable routing on the RH side of the steering stem. Location for the throttle sensor plug is tucked up behind the steering stem on the frame. You have to disconnect the plug from the frame tab before you can separate the plug.

No tank removal is necessary.

Thanks man.

my bike came with them so i was lucky. and those things work amazing never go over med as high will burn your hands lol

Just installed mine myself, easy-peasy. Those wire bundles sure are crammed up in there behind the light though...

The dealer enabled them for no charge. Best addition to the bike ever.

How do you get the security screws off? I figured they would include the tool, but no.

Size of the tool for that is a T25 security bit.

I don't think you'll find very many kits that actually include tools to install.. Well, except anything from IKEA.. Which is why Ducati wants everything to be installed by the dealer who have those tools at their disposal.

almost every auto parts store in Canada usually sells individual sockets.. Napa, Lordco, etc.. Same as department stores like Princess Auto or Canadian Tire... I'm sure they can't be that hard to find.

Haha, ok. Got the correct bit and installed the grips. Was easier to take the whole front fascia off including the widscreen assembly and tip the beak assembly forward to get at the throttle wiring.

All went back together easy and the wiring layout is actually nicley laid out and tidy.

Grips activated and they kick ***. Toasty warm and I dig the way they integrate.

Not as simple as it sounds!

I thought this was going to be an easy install :( Obviously I thought wrong. Read the threads, found the instructions on line & read them, seemed simple, ordered the $mega Ducati heated grips which arrived promptly.

Made a start all going well until unplug the throttle. Where is the plug? I assume it's this one buried in behind the steering stem? Can somebody please confirm? Thanks. looks like a bugger to get at - any tricks?

The leads going from the handlebar are jammed in and tied together so tight that I can't even wiggle it to see if it's the same lead. I can't see clearly enough to see that it's the same lead going in and out of the bunch. Cant get access to the rubber looking clip to release them. Looks like I'm going to have to strip out the dash just to get that frigging lead out and the new one in.

Found the connectors in their wire bundles ok and what I assume is the GPS connection as it's unlabelled.
