Hyperstrada mileage vs Multistrada

Hi Guys,

Got a Multistrada ABS 2012 for the time being. Doing a lot of mileage riding to and from work, as the commute is in through town.
Now, the Multi is not really best for this sort of riding - and the consumption is best never thought of...

So all i am wondering is, how good does the Hyper compare with the Multi, when it comes to a lot of town riding?
 
Having had a mutley and now a hyoerstrada I For one would favour the hyper, irs much lighter and more manoeuvreable with instant pull.Some say clutch a bit grabby I know mine feels a little inconsistent ? Definitely a thumbs up for hyper
 
Have had the multi and currently have the Hyperstrada. The Hyper definitely gets better mileage and has much better fueling at low rpm and around-town speeds. The Hyper has the APTC clutch, which is known to have a narrower engagement point than the clutch used on the other Ducs, so some find it more sensitive than others when finessing at low speeds. My experience has been that it just takes getting used to. I regularly run errands on the Hyper in lots of city traffic and really like it. Definitely much lighter and easier to flick around than the multi. At nearly 3k miles so far I've got no complaints. Great bike.
 
I have both a Hyper and a 2013 Multi GT. The Hyper is definitely the better city bike. Better mileage, lighter and more maneuverable, narrower handlebars and narrower with bags off. The low speed fuel mapping and clutch is much better on the Multi, however as others have said, you can easily get used to and adapt to the fueling and clutch on the Hyper.

The Multi is really and amazing machine and in a class by itself. On paper, it bests the Hyper in pretty much every sense. But, the Hyper is just plain more fun to ride, and it gets better the more I ride it. I love my little Hyper.
 
Just from my short test rides I agree. The hyper stalled the first time pulling away from the curb. :mad: Then NP but no low end grunt like my good old F650. The multi pulls smoothly from idle. Sweet, in their own ways. I'd have both in my garage if I could.
 
I had the 2010 Multi12, loved it, HyperStrada reminds me a lot of it. Motor pulls through the gears and sounds similar to what I remember. Very light of course makes it fun to flick around and really digs out of the corners.

Multi12 wins 2up, but we still go 2up on the HS.

Oh, on the milage. HS wins with 50 mpg pretty easy to do, but overall tank distance is about the same, maybe more on the Multi12. I once ran the HS dry, it got 193 miles. I made it over 200 just barely couple of times on the Multi12.

You must have incredible restraint ST. Best I've ever got was 46...and that was really painful going so slow.
 
I also get 50 MPG easily. Maybe my riding style is different. My typical riding is on 35 MPH twisty roads where I pace at between 55 & 65 MPH. I tend to keep a fairly consistent speed. No need to go 90 MPH on the straights and then slow down to 50 for the corners. I find great comfort and a sense of rhythm just getting that perfect "pace".
 
Are you talking about trip computer mileage? The bike says I get 50-53 mpg but, I calculate around 43. I always fill to bottom of filler neck, too.
 
How hard are you all riding! I get (on the computer) 60mpg and that's on a weekend blast in the highlands of Scotland. In reality I get 125 miles before the light. The tank takes 11.5 litres at this point so the bike is actually returning 50mpg. I had a 620 multi previously and this was 64bhp returning 45mpg so 110bhp returning 50mpg is looking good!
How can the computer be 20% optimistic, come on Ducati we can do the maths...
 
The optimistic mileage 'puter is directly related to the optimistic speedo. I get 43 blasting through 30+ stoplights in traffic for 15 miles and 25 miles @ 80+ mph on hwy. I tested being really frugal and got about 46-47, with one tank returning 48. 50-60 mph is the sweet spot - if you travel these speeds for extended periods you get max rewards.
 
My average is 5-5.5 L/100 Km (42-49 MPG US)
And this is mostly driving in town, fun on twisty roads.
 
I did a 137 mile ride yesterday and used 2.2US gallons that equates to a little over 62 mpg!
