I need a tail bag or pack, to sit on the rack.

Ordered a tail bag. More $$ than I wanted to spend, but whatever.

I initially posted looking for input on a tail bag, but after days of searching the interwebz I decided to bite the bullet and just bought one.

The nelson-riggs looked ok, but doofy. I want something that'll not detract too much from the bike and be able to fit all the crap I commute to work with.

I put a knock off pelican case on my bike and love it. Mine isn't remove able but I haven't wanted to remove it yet this summer.

I decided on a bag, I think. It's quite a bit more than I intended to spend, but I like the look of it and think that it will suit my needs and then some. At least I hope so.

It's the least "bag" or "sack" or "duffle" like of the ones I was looking at.

Now to see if there's a coupon code or something I can use.

UPDATE: called in and they happily gave me 10% off. Still more that I was hoping to spend but it looks like a well-made bag that'll last me a while. I'll put up pics of it on the bike when I get it.

That's a good looking bag. There's one all over an older thread that was a bit more rigid but had a little back support pad. Thought it was Motech. It wasn't cheap, either.

The small bag with backrest is the AXIO. (search these forums and you'll find it). If I want to carry a little more, i use this GIVI. Both look great on the bike.
XStream Range : 20 LITER SEAT/TAIL PACK - XSTREAM

I saw the Axio on a few posts. Looks neat. Couldn't find anyone selling them, and I felt it'd be a bit small. I saw the Givi, thought that was neat too. And another by Wolfman, the Peak. Also the Bagster Spider, with no US distributors. Then there's the Saddlemen and Moose Racing bags.

I felt like the one I ordered would be sized right to hold my work stuff, rain gear, lunch, my laptop perhaps, if not the iPad. And the chargers, my meds, my stethescope, a change of gloves, and so on.

It shipped today from RI. Hope to get it soon. NY should take a couple of days.

I've got the kriega us10 on a sw-motech alu-rack.
My rain gear, extra gloves and some small stuff goes in there.

SW Motech makes the best bags in Germany. I had a 70l bag with me on my XJ6 last year 4000kms through Scotland in all climate conditions I can imagine, from rain through heavy sun. Neither did it get wet inside (with provided inlay rain covers applied) nor did it change its color. I had to tighten the straps maybe once a week I promise you'll be fully satisfied with that thing as long as the capacity is enough for you. They advised to not ride faster than 130km/h with it and I rode 200km/h highway for a long time and felt no balance penalty or any other strange behaviour. If I'd not have the Stradas bags, I'd still use it. If you don't torture that thing in purpose it'll last all your life I think...

I got my bag today. Really nicely made. Quality built throughout. There are a few ways to attach it, but they made it so the tail end of it can slip over a rear rack like the SW-Motech Alu-rack, which keeps it down on the back end, and up front I just clip the loops around the grab rails and POOF. It's on. Easy Peasy.

I'd bought a rear touratech rack here off the classifieds, and it slips on that perfectly.

I'll try to take some pics of the setup so you can see what I mean.
I'd originally hoped that the bag would be small enough to sit it on just the rack and not intrude on the passenger pillion seat, but truth be told, it doesn't matter. I'll very rarely carry a passenger anyway. If I wanted to, for my commute, I could put the new bag on the pillion and use it as a backrest, but I need the room to get my leg over the bike.

The bag looks great. Probably could have converted a quality backpack to attach the same way, but I'm not likely to have done that anytime soon.

The rear slips over the rack, the front goes on with just two buckles. Easy peasy.

Sorry for the lack of rotation... computer issues this morning.

Nice one ND. I am a fan of the SW-Motech gear. I fitted the Multistrada Alu-Rack soon after I got the Hyper and then added the DayPack bag and their click on mount system, great products, bit pricey, but high quality.

I went for the SW Motech Rearbag fitted on the Steel Rack. It takes no space on the passenger seat so I can ride 2 up with no problem.

I like that. Hard to picture how it'd look from pics of it not mounted on our type of bike. Proportions seem pretty good.

I felt as though the low profile of the "Jetpack" bag would be better for my commute and as a backpack for days when I'm not going to work by bike. My wife and son barely ever ride with me so while at first I was not happy about the fact that the jetpack covers some of the back seat, I realize now it's not a big deal since I'm solo much of the time. My wife and son aren't about to ride with me for enough of a distance to need to carry much. I would have liked having a bag they could use as sort of a backstop - not quite a backrest but to ease their concerns about flying off the back of the bike. I may make a backrest that goes on and off the rack easily, but no rush on that.

PS. Wife had her own bike once. Many miles with me on mine. Son came along and riding went by the wayside. Maybe when he's off on his own.

i decided on the givi tank lock system mainly because it's cheaper and have more variety to choose from. but since there is no easy way of mounting it on the tank, i opted to slap it onto the touratech rack, making it a tail bag system. first i got the 25-liter, then later the 4-liter 3d. both are easily interchangeable depending on how much i need to carry. 4-liter bag for short city commutes, 25-liter for longer drives out of town

Great looking and very functional bag, been thinking about something similar for when I don't need the size of my old Givi V46. However, the price($256US) is more than I am currently willing to spend. Did you find any similar(or maybe slightly smaller volume) products around the $150 mark?

I have been happy with my Nelson Rigg
