Just scored a sweet deal on a 2014 Hyperstrada (first Ducati) with 6000 miles BUT....

The test ride was great, love that sport mode!

But now the clutch is acting like a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide. Starting off can be as smooth as silk and other times is just GRABS at the last second. You better be pointed in the right direction! Scary.

I have the lever set where the manual says it should be. Does the slipper clutch need to be adjusted? The bike did sit for almost a year, seldom ridden. I'm going to do an oil change to see if it makes a difference.

The bike supposedly had a full service at the 4,000 mile mark.

The other thing is the front brakes. Great bite but as I slow down I get this pulsing sensation. It's like riding a pogo horse, not good for slow speed maneuvering.

I don't think the rotors are warped because it doesn't do it at higher speeds. I think maybe they got something on the rotor/pads when they were detailing it. Maybe a good rotor cleaning is in order.

Did anyone else have trouble getting the center lip on the seat to catch? It looks like it hasn't been under the lip because of the wear on the plastic and the paint. It was just sitting on top. I'm going to try and shim that cross brace up to it the seat catch will go under.

Flipping through the owners manual I discovered that Ducati doesn't want you working on the bike! It shows you what the chain adjustment should be but not how to adjust it! Luckily the internet helped. I think I have a shock tool that will work as a chain adjustment tool.

Any advice appreciated. Looking forward to some mods from this Forum.

Here's a quick question: I like being out in the open air during the summer months does the Hypermotard "wind shield" fit the Hyperstrada?

Thanks again.

Welcome to the Hyperstrada family! And congrats on your awesome deal!!

Welcome!

Literally every issue you listed has a thread on here. Here's the quick and dirty:

- Probably Sport mode, not the clutch. When I first started riding in Sport, the insanely sensitive throttle response would make me look goofy rolling to a start every so often. Switch between Sport and Urban on the same ride.

- Oil the bobbins on the brake discs.

- I had to add spacers to my center seat catch to make purchase with seat. I still have to put a lot of pressure in the center as I slide it on to get a full bite. I have a thread on this.

- Motard fly-screen fits but uses a different mount than the touring screen.

Cheers

The motard carbon screen does fit, i have it on mine. Im guessing the standard motard screen would fit as well.
I realised after a while of my seat never sitting properly that the cross piece the seat lip thing slides under was installed upside down. Undid the two bolts and flipped it over and its as it should be. Have a look for that also..

New to me Hyperstrada.

Thanks for the responses guys.

After all these years of riding this the first I heard of cleaning my bobbins.
I feel like Mary Poppins when I say that!

I did a quick search and saw people using a bolt, nut and some washers to break the bobbins free. One person even used a razor knife to lift every other tang on the "star" washer on the back so it could move easier.

I ran down to take a look and it's hard to believe that those rotors are floating (even on the Triumph). The bobbins are TIGHT!

Some were using WD-40 to get bobbins moving but lubricant doesn't sound like a good idea around BRAKES. I'll try the brake or contact cleaner. But you have to be careful with that because I'm sure it would screw up some painted surfaces.

I did pull the pads out to inspect them and cleaned the rotor with some acetone. Saw where someone used a ScotchBrite pads also, I just used a rag. Another thing to try. In case the rotors have a glaze.

I noticed notice that my right caliper seems to be doing more work (much dirtier).

For the pulsing, much to my amazement I found it disappeared after I removed and reinstalled the front tire during a tire change. It's slowly starting come back, though.

Quick trip to the local Ducati dealer today.

Doing research on the Hyperstrada I just bought used at the BMW dealer. I was comparing my 2014 to a 2016.

I noticed that the 2016 models now have an oil cooler down below the radiator.

I discovered that I have an aftermarket windshield, (16.5" high - no Ducati markings on the bottom) looks taller than the stock set up.

Carbon fiber looking hugger on the rear.

Radiator guard.

Carbon Arrow slip on (got the stock one also with the deal).

Rizoma bar end mirrors.

Ducati Rear rack. It has the two metal pads on top that are spring loaded. I assume that helps with a top case mounting/securing? I didn't get a top case.

Not sure if the original owner replaced the rear spring, it's yellow but it also has Olins printing on it. Maybe he got a beefier spring? Seems to work for me and I weigh 240lbs.

When I went to get insurance the vin number brought up a Hypermotard SP. I explained that mine wasn't a hooligan machine. It was the Hyperstrada, a more genteel gentlemen's model made for touring. If that makes a difference in the insurance premiums. It doesn't.

I assume if it had the SP package there would be adjustable front forks also, correct?

I was talking to the salesman about my Bobbins. I reached down and felt on the new bike that they do actually spin. I'll see if I can get mine moving.

The dealership didn't have a tool to adjust chain. Did they stop supplying those in the on board tool kit or did the original owner forget to put it back? I just ordered one on line.

I also noticed that the throttle was tight on the new machine. Mine has some slop in it. I don't know if that's because it's broken in... I like it to be tight. That's the way I used to adjust the antique cabled versions.

Do you guys have a web site where you go to buy OEM parts. I've used Bike Bandit in the past but they don't sell Ducati parts. Still looking.

Thanks for this sounding board.

If you're windscreen is tinted, it's the touring screen from DP.
Sounds like you got a lot of good upgrades on that bike.
Coming up as an SP is interesting. You can transform a full Motard into a Strada. The stock Strada spring is yellow but the rear strut is definitely not Ohlins. What paint scheme does it have? Does it have a center-stand/ 2 power plugs on the frame/ Turn DTC off?
SP has adjustable fronts

I need to get a picture out there.

gatdammit,

Windshield not really tinted (maybe a light tint). It does have a little curved lip at the top. I'll take some pictures. Wait, there were some from the dealership.....

I did see the SP suspension in the Google images. I don't have that piggy back can on the shock but the original owner may have just swapped the spring.

I have the red and black model. Yes, it has the two power ports and a center stand. I figure the insurance company just put one model in their data base.

Might I add, that center stand is the easiest to use that I have ever experienced on a motorcycle.

Think that's the Puig screen. Definitely not the Duc Touring screen. Bigger than the Duc screen but probably does a better job on the highway.

That's definitely a straight-up Strada but the rear shock is intriguing. That would be the first Ohlins rear I've read about on our site.

Ya, when I registered mine in 2013, they only had the non-821 Motards listed.

Congrats on the new (to-you) ride.

Looks like the rear hugger/mudguard is also the shorter Motard one.

I agree the center stand on Hyper is ridiculously easy to use.

Ducati modified the clutch in 2015. I know, I have the same issue. Flipping dangerous at times. I was able to score all of the updated parts but I didn't have time to install before I had to ship the bike. I'll post the results as soon as I get the bike back from, http://advrider.com/index.php?http:...lly-4.1183746//the-moto-tour-rally-4.1183746/
I also got the updated kickstand[emoji35]

I did an oil change on the Ducati for a warm fuzzy feeling.

I also discovered another aftermarket part on the bike. I knew it had a radiator guard installed but then I noticed the cylinder cover had the same mesh as the radiator guard. Nice set up.

I then got to draining the motor. Here is what I used.

I don't know if this is a Ducati thing (or Ducati technician thing) but there was silicone sealant on the main drain plug (one with the magnet). It has a washer, so I just put it back in there.

I also noticed that the other plugs, including the screen plug had grease on the threads. I went ahead and greased them back up for the reinstall. I also did the main drain while I was at it.

All in all it was pretty easy. I ended up using some WD40 and a tooth brush to clean the screen plug. I didn't want to use any solvent because of the plastic housing around the screen. Then I blew it off with some compressed air.

I hope the belly pan clears that K&N "NUT" filter.
It did!

Jacked up the seat bracket.

I used some aluminum bar stock (1/8" x 3/4") from the hardware store. Doubled them up for a 1/4" and it just barely hooks the seat now.

Ordered the Racing Seat and I did good.

Now I can stretch out a little more (36" inseam). I don't know about touring on it but it's great for the back roads.

Discovered that they redesigned the mid seat "hook".

Removed the aluminum risers from the previous post, because they were too high for the new seat.
