My Hyperstrada is supposed to arrive in 3 weeks. We will see. I ordered the larger touring windshield for $193.
I am waiting on the heated grips.
Anyone else doing this?
According to the ever trustworthy web "Heated grips for the new Ducati Hypermotard and Hyperstrada fit to mounting points already available on the handlebar and feature temperature adjustment to keep hands warm even in coldest weather. A perfectly integrated kit for your Hyper."
But the pictures are inconclusive....
I still have yet to see and good photographs of the bars.
The dealer quoted me three hours of labor to install the heated grips. Seems excessive to me. He stated the computer had to be programmed to know the grips were there. Not sure about that either. I assume it is wired to the battery (like heated gloves)
Mmmmm Doesn't seem right to me I put heated grips on my bike and didn't take me an hour granted I didn't have to flash the computer but I think that's a two minute five-minute deal three hours seems way excessive
I think ill test the regular size windscreen before pulling the trigger on the larger one but I was thinking into buying was the tail bag because my girlfriend has back problems and I think it would help her to have some support for her back. I was looking on the pictures section and there is a red hyperstrada with the tailbag but it seems to be very further back for the passenger to use as a back rest. What do you guys think?
I was reading up on what they do to install the heated grips on a Multi. Looks like they have to pull the tank to get to the connectors. I hear its a bit of a job to pull the Multi tanks so maybe that's why they quoted 3 hrs. Then there is the programing to turn on the heated grip feature in the software. That's probably a 10 minute job.
Unless I lived in a particularly icy clime I think I'd wait for the heated grips option: the Hyperstrada has what look like useful-sized hand-protectors that may be sufficient, particularly at the mooted 3-hour cost of installation (+ of course cost of the units themselves). The taller touring screen is on my list, once I've appraised the OE item.
Yep, on the Multi12 you have to pull the tank, pretty big job! Connectors for the heated grips and turn signals are right behind the airbox under the tank. And yes they have to turn the function on in software so you can control them via the menus.
Thanks for the info. I do not mind paying dealers for real work. I hate the smoke and mirrors bs. If it is 3 hours of real labor to install the grips, then fine. I am a used bike guy, so this dealer component is a new thing. I have owned over 15 used motorcyles, never a new one. The Hyperstrada seems so perfect, I could not wait for the used market.
I'm with you Jame, this is my first new bike too. All my bikes have been used and have done my own wrenching. Since this is new we will be learning as we go.
I will probably let the dealer do the maintenance in the beginning while it's still under warranty but when the warranty runs out I'll probably be doing it myself
Yes, I hope so. I was really attracted by the traction controls and other technology. Coming from early 90s carb cbr900s, bmw airheads, bmw f650 gs twin spark singles...
the technology does scare me a bit. I am hoping ducati has this dialed in for trouble free riding. Really excited about the entire package of the hyperstrada
Sorry to jump on this thread but am new to this forum and saw that part about the larger wind screen, which I am very interested in of I end up buying a Hyperstrada.
Anyway, the real reason I am posting is I thought the heated grips were standard Equipment on the H-Strada--not an add on/option. Am I reading this correctly that the dealers are charging extra for heated grips?
Also, I own a BMW GSA with heated grips and even with hand protectors to help deflect the wind temps in the 50's (degrees F) or lower, gloves alone don't cut it over time and I flip my heated grips on! I am spoiled and even living in Florida it gets cold several weeks a year that warrant heat grips and when I go tripping to up high places they are my best friend.
Strike my last post about the heated grips. I just was re-reading the Standard Equipment list for the Hyperstrada and it says; "READY FOR" before the heated grips part. If you want warm mitts you gotta pay
Most definitely don't need heated grips...I live in Hawaii! Will get the anti-theft system...fortunately due to the rarity of this bike, I'm hoping there is not much of a market for stolen hyperstrada parts. Unless, they have the email addresses of all you low life on this forum....just kidding about that. I am just as excited about my soon o be delivered ducati as the rest of you!
Yeah, you put me down for the heated grips, but I usually do it myself. If they are like the Multi12 tho, will have to schedule a trip by the dealer to get them activated, we shall see.
