Hi All,
New to this forum as I would like to share with you a very unfortunate story and would love to hear your thoughts as I think i might escalate things with the mechanic that worked on my bike (official Ducati dealer and service):

4/14/18

"¢ I decide to take my 2013 Hyperstrada with about 4900 miles (never a problem, runs silky smooth) to an official dealer (I will avoid disclosing the name) to change tires because of their competitive rates.

"¢ Once there the technician gives me an heads up about some recalls and informs me that by law and to avoid any liability issues they will have to apply these changes before letting me go

"¢ I agree to get the recalls and take the opportunity to ask to check my oil pressure sensor since during the last few weeks before taking the bike in it gave me some problems with intermittent flashes on the dash light, especially when the engine is cold.

"¢ They check the sensor and confirm there is a problem with it; therefore I would have to order a new one.

"¢ I order a new oil pressure sensor (not in stock) and they also let me know one of the recalls cannot be completed because they do not have the piece in stock.

I leave the dealer and go back to the city, knowing I will be called once the pieces arrive/
Between my visit and the call to let me know I can go back to them to be serviced I use the motorbike about 3 times in the city.

5/12/18

"¢ I finally go back to the dealer to get the remaining recall and oil pressure sensor installed, the technician lets me know it will take about 1.5 hrs

"¢ I end up being in the waiting room for about 5 hours (2 pm to 7:30pm) for some unknown problems

"¢ The receipt reads:
o RECALL: MISSING PARTS
o RECALL: Installation of CAN protection Filter
o RECALL: Throttle
o + Oil Pressure Sensor ($139.46)

"¢ Exhausted from the wait I go back home and park the bike (covered parking)

5/26/18

"¢ For Memorial day weekend I can finally use my motorbike again, the weather was just not nice enough, so I did not use it once since my visit to the dealer.

"¢ I go about 60 miles away, I park and spend a nice day with my gf.

"¢ In the afternoon we jump on the bike again and head towards the city. After more or less 10 miles, all of the sudden, the bike turns off while I was on the highway, no lights on the dash, no other sign that was about to happen.

"¢ No luck to have the bike starting again, I call the road service and get picked up.

"¢ Memorial day weekend over

5/30/18

"¢ The dealer sends a van to pick up the bike to have it checked and I underline how I think it might be something related to the recalls or new part installed.

"¢ After about a week they let me know they think the problem did not stem from their services and suggest purchasing a new engine.

"¢ I request more information as being dismissed with the request to purchase a new engine seems a bit excessive, especially because I did not receive enough details to understand what the problem is.

"¢ Since I cannot get a proper answer and a detailed explanation of the problem I decide to go to the dealer and see the bike myself.

6/8/18

"¢ I get to the dealer and request to see the bike. They took apart the tank and the cover of the cam sleeve on the vertical cylinder.

"¢ It seems there was a lack of oil pressure that caused one of the cams to run dry against its sleeve. At that point the cam got stuck and shredded one of the distribution belts.

The first question I had was about them checking the oil pressure when they proceeded to change my oil pressure sensor.

Answer was and here I quote since I have it on email "I spoke to my tech and he stated that we did not check your Oil pressure as it was not here for any diagnosing issue. We did replace the sensor and verified there was oil pressure as the light was extinguished but we did not measure the actual valve."

Now, I am not a technician, but I wonder if that is normal, after changing such important part is it possible the oil pressure was not checked? What if the new sensor was not measuring properly? Why did it take 5 hours to change it to begin with? Oil level was in range and no light turned on at the moment of the problem and the bike never had a single hiccup!

I am just speechless to have incurred in such problem and that I am told I have to buy a new engine while now I am quite positive the problem stemmed from them handling my motorcycle incorrectly.

Attaching some images where you can see the current damage.

Would love to hear your opinion as I want to escalate this problem, I feel I have been dismissed for something the dealer should more carefully look into as it might have been their fault.
