The bags work and are a good balance style, lightness and practicality. Have your dealer lightly file the locking pawls on the attachment point, add some graphite, and they will pop off easily again. I agree that the seams around zipper will be first to give, but my dealer says as long as happens within 2 years, I'll get a new set.
The bags are more water tight than they look. I had a 20 minute stop & go ride through tropical storm Andrea the other day and the bags were dry to touch inside - I was soaked through my "weatherproof" riding suit.
I think the bags get a hasty bad rap because they feel a bit flimsy when you mostly see hard bags on touring bikes. After 1500 miles of constant use of bags, I argue they work.
