Protecting the side cases against fading and making them more water resistant

Is there a trick you use to prevent the side cases from fading in the sun? After a season of use, they start fading to gray, and I'm wondering if anyone tried solutions like fabric protectors, etc.

Similarly, has anyone tried options like nikwax to make the bags more water resistant? I'm guessing the zippers will still let moisture in but perhaps to a lesser degree.

There have been many posts about this. Do a bit of searching. But the only certain fix is to leave them in the box they came in...works for me!

NeverWet Outdoor Fabric spray.

Available at Home Depot.

Much better waterproofing performance than anything else. Note, this isn't the two-part NeverWet, but a new product specifically for everything from GoreTex raincoats to outdoor furniture. Invisible, breathable, durable.

As for black color, I will use a black dye product when the time comes.

In the mean time, NeverWet will protect the cases, tank bag, tail bag and all my riding gear when riding in rain.
