Service intervals - From Thailand

Dear All,

Greetings from Thailand!! I hope someone can advise on this.

I just purchased a used Hperstrada, its now 2 1/2 years old and has done 15,000 km. The last owner looked after it very well, however the last service was 1 year ago when it had done 13,000 kms, so it has only done 2,000 kms since the last service.

Now!! looking at the owners manual my understanding is that this bike is due a service every 12 months, even though it has only done 2,000 kms since the last one, is this correct? Should the bike be serviced every 12 months even if it does zero kms? I guess really the main concern is engine oil/filter change?

Here its very difficult to get information, there is a language barrier and standards are not always what they should be?? I took it to the local Ducati dealer and they told me that no service was required, i should bring it in again when it had done 22,000 or 25,000 kms.

Any clarification would be helpfull

Belts get dry and can crack with excessive age, even if the bike is not ridden. Oil get acidic as it breaks down, which in short, is not good for the engine.

At a minimum, you should be doing oil and filter every year, unless you actually put zero miles on. The other parts of the service are less time sensitive.

Hope this helps.
