Should I buy a Hyperstrada?

I'd appreciate some advice from those of you who have purchased a Hyperstrada. I ride a Multistrada 620 and its been great. I like the bike a lot and am ready to move up a notch. I also really want the advanced safety features like ABS, DTC and slipper clutch. So, the Hyperstrada seems to fit that bill and I like the riding modes for safety as well. I have a question about the Hyperstrada handling at high speed. I ride with a group of sport bike riders and it gets very fast in the straights (I've got my Multi 620 wide open). With my Multi I can slide back further on the seat and lean forward to streamline at high speed. The Hyperstrada seat won't let you slide back. What's been your experience with the Hyperstrada at high speed and do you think trading a Multi 620 for a Hyperstrada is a reasonably good choice?

Hi,
I did try the Hyperstrada up to 180km/h on a straight without any problem.
But this bike is not designed to drive it on the straights but rather to push it hard in the corners.
I guess that you'll be able to lead the pack on any twisting roads with this bike.
By the way, I've just ordered mine a few days ago !

It'll plow up to 115-120 mph in a hurry, but you won't want to stay there very long. I have the larger windscreen and still get beat up at 80 with the bags on, although I find the hwy has more brutal air than back roads.

I spent the last 50k miles riding the heck out of my Multistrada 1000S so I know exactly how your 620 is as far as ergonomics and wind protection. I've also owned a 620 Monster so I'm very familiar with your 620s engine as well. In a nutshell, the Hyperstrada is great! Power is very nice, and certainly a fine step up from your 620, but very smooth and controllable. IMO the seat on the Hyperstrada is far better than the earlier Multistrada, and I even had the Ducati Performance gel seats on mine. I really liked the handling of my Multi, and could certainly embarrass a lot of sportbike riders on it, but the Hyperstrada is waaaaay lighter, faster, has better brakes, and can absolutely haul arse on the backroads better than my Multi. I haven't hit the top speed yet, but at 110mph on the freeway it's quite composed and not the least bit twitchy, and absolutely no headshake so far at any speed I've been able to hit, either straight-line or entering a corner. As far as wind protection I think it gives up just a tiny bit to my older Multi that had the DP large screen on it, but not much. I've got the tall screen on the Hyperstrada and so far I like it a lot. To make this long post short, I think you'll love the Hyperstrada after owning the Multistrada 620. Step up and have a fun ride!

I have not been to topspeed, but did run up to 131 indicated (GPS said 121 max speed), it got there very quick in 6th gear and had more. The bike really shines on acceleration out of turns. Great pulling smooth engine and sounds really nice.

You do have to tuck, and with my Arai XD3 (sun shade) it doesn't work to well as the comfortable tuck position does not allow much vision. Normal fullface helmet would be fine. I'm 5' 11" and screen is a bit close in a tuck.

My question is similar to Petrey's but my context is a bit different. I have ridden a 250cc, 500cc - but it has been about ~15 years. Owning a Ducati (sports bike at the time) was a dream I had as a kid. Pushing 40 now and I am considering the hyperstrada. ~821cc is more bike than I have driven - and that in some time. Now that enough time has passed for the frontal lobe to fully attach - I am considering an advanced motor safety course. My plan would be shop insurance, test drive, purchase, ride home, safety course, and just fun.

I like the dual aspect of the hyperstrada. It seems like it should do OK on gravel and some dirt roads. I also like the light "touring" aspect of the bike. I am getting into more outdoors type activities (hiking and camping) so these attributes are attractive (can pack some gear, do some distance, even get onto some less than paved roads).

Given my interest in the attributes of the bike, rider history context, I am interested in any sage advice I might find here. Thanks!

I agree with TTasia.

I don't think long straight roads are this bike's strength. Despite great ergos the wind protection is not great (turbulence for my at 5'10 anyway). This is not a 'Mini multi' but rather a motard with panniers. It loves to be thrown around and excels on back roads.

As far as getting back into riding (Tofer5000's question), I think the different ride modes (Urban, Touring, Sport) would help developing confidence progressively. Haven't tried gravel other than my driveway though!

Does it all

I am at 1000 miles now. I have taken it to Chuckwalla raceway track day and had a blast. Two days before that I was on a poker run with my wife. I bought the Ducati topcase and it provides a nice backrest for her. She said it was an awesome ride. I have been commuting on it as well. Great ride in the Southern California twisties and anywhere. Power and braking are great as noted above. This is my first Ducati and they hit it out of the park with the hyperstrada. I have enjoyed my GSXR bikes and V-STROM but this bike is perfect for my needs. Fuel mileage has been good averaging in the high 40s but dependent on driving. Price point is many thousands less than the multi and brought it within a good range for me. Highly recommended!!!

Yes. I own a 620 MS and has just ordered a hyperstrada. For delivery next week. I took one on a 1 hour test ride and fell in love. It's the best bike I have ever ridden and I've had a fair few.
Go for it, you won't regret it.

Thanks for all the advice. I pulled the trigger yesterday and traded in my Multi 620 for a red Hyperstrada. It's one impressive machine!
