Slaying the Dragon on a Ducati Hyperstrada

Had an awesome 3 day trip to the Dragon this past weekend in Deals Gap, NC. I usually make at least a couple trips down there a year. I quickly found the Hyper's one weak link in the tight twisties and that was ground clearance. By the time my knee had touched the ground so had my peg, levers, and boot. The bike performed flawlessly through 600 mountain miles and I came home and ordered Woodcraft rearsets immediately.

Great photos. Makes me want to add sliders to my pants.

But then, I was warned that doing so would void the warranty on my new knee. ;-()

Shift your weight/body/bum and you'll find you have lots more clearance to play with

Looks like you are sitting in the centre of the seat in these pics. You need to move your weight into the bend... I save that sort of riding for the track

Interestingly I've never dragged peg on my hyper, maybe I am not doing it right.

Great pics btw. Your helmet really matches the style of the bike.

Far from sitting on the seat. Here is a pic of my body position from behind. One butt cheek off the seat just like I do at the track. My upper body could use some work getting my inside elbow bent more and outside elbow more straight. That would help lift the bike up as well. But this was my first time taking curves on an upright bike. It's a lot harder to get off of than my sportbike. If you draw a line down the middle of my bike though my whole body is off to the side of it.

I came home and ordered Woodcraft rearsets immediately.

Been there, done that. Be warned, the rearsets I bought last summer did not come with the needed spacers to put the center stand back on. I just left it off since it was dragging as well.

Otherwise the woodcrafts are fantastic.

My centerstand is already off and will probably never find it's way back on.

Yep, those pegs do touch quick. I was taking an advanced riding skills course when I discovered it. And yes, I found hanging off a lot harder than on a sports bike when I was testing the 959 panigale and 939 back to back. 959 automatically puts you in that position, and you can use the seat and tank a lot better to support your body weight. That said, I think I'm going to invest in the new 939 SP soon and attach the touring parts to it get a hybrid of the SP and the strada. As much as the 959 is in the curves, there is nothing I enjoy as much as the Hyper, day in and day out.

Well, got the woodcrafts on last week and hit some twisties this weekend. No dragging to report. Nothing too tight like the Dragon was, but I'll be back down there in a month. Will report if they were worth the money.
