So I got a 3D printer. What should I make.

My wife is the best. She surprised me with a 3D printer. I've been spending far too much time making useless things and now I want to make something useful. I just can't think of anything that'll fit in the confines of a roughly 8Lx6wx8h build space.

If you look at thingiverse.com there are some motorcycle related items there that people have designed. RAM mounts, gopro mounts, theres a neat little handlebar mounted storage thingy there too. I was going to make an EZpass holder, but mine is stuck to the inside of a handguard.

Right now I'm printing in the more enviro-friendly PLA material, but once I get a design where I want it I'll be able to print in black ABS plastic.

I had thoughts of a windscreen mount, maybe even an adjustable one.

Any thoughts?

I'd like a dash protector. I don't know if you've noticed, but our dash is kind of delicate and can get tiny hairline scratches. I'd like something that fits onto the existing setup with no modification, and allows for a clear plastic cover over the dash.

I wouldn't go for anything that requires too much strength, since 3d printed stuff is usually not at strong. What kind did you get? That'll give us an idea of what it's capable of.

The thing I'm looking for is not Hyperstrada related but very usefull.
It's a sunviser or cap for a Garmin Zumo 340/350.
Could turn into something a lot of people would like.

There's a chain of computer stores called MicroCenter. They rebranded a knockoff of a Makerbot and sell it for a lot less. It can print in PLA and ABS, has a heated bed, and two extruders. I think when I print with ABS the printed item should be pretty strong.

I'll see what a dash protector would entail.

Interesting idea. Maybe something adjustable that can attach with velcro. Can you give me the dimensions and photos of the Garmin unit?
