strange clutch behavior

2013 bike. here is the strange behavior.

- In all gears, including neutral, I can press the starter and the bike starts and jerks.
- In all gears, including neutral, if I pull the clutch lever in all the way, IE, lever touches grip, it won't start.
- In all gears, pulling the clutch lever in a little starts the bike.

It's almost as if the clutch sensor (if there is such a thing) is working but in reverse. It thinks the clutch is in when it is not, and not when it is in.

Any idea what I can do? Feels like some electrical connector was reversed tho I did not touch anything electronic/electric.

HELP!!!
Thanks.

What about behavior with side stand up/ down? A few people have had minor issues with the side stand sensor malfunctioning. But, this sounds a bit more involved.

The side stand sensor is working.
If the stand is down, it doesn't start period.

Do you know where the clutch sensor is located? Is it near the handlebar or is it closer to the gearbox?

Thanks!

The switch for the clutch is located on the clutch lever perch on the handlebars.

The clutch switch is easily accessible if your remove your clutch lever and pull a few screws. The switch and it's holder slide right out of a slot near the clutch lever. The wire you see exiting near the clutch lever pivot point is for the clutch switch.

It sounds like yours is almost certainly malfunctioning. I had a similar issue where my clutch switch had broken loose from it's housing (small retaining pins broke off) and was pretty well rattling around beside the clutch lever. Some super glue fixed it and it has held for around 10000km now.
