As my 821 Hyperstrada was in for its second annual service yesterday I took out a Hypermotard 939 SP for a 60 mile test.
What can i say, I was never really of the opinion that the Hyperstrada suspension is bad, but my god the SP suspension is GOOD! I found myself aiming for potholes and speed bumps I would normally avoid just to test out how good it was at smoothing them out.
Engine wise I would say there is a bit more urgency in the rev range but not enough to make the leap from an 821 to a 939, the exhaust note is the same.
The gear position indicator is nice to have as are the LED indicators on the handguards.
Do I intend to upgrade from an 821 to a 939? Yes, but only as I intend to upgrade from a strada to an SP. I have used the panniers once in 2 years, the windscreen makes no difference to me but I am 6'5 and 18 stone so unless it was a riot shield that is to be expected. I did use one of the power sockets back when i used my phone as nav but I have a wired in garmin now so there is no need for these. I will miss the centre stand for chain maintenance but i'm sure a paddock stand will suffice as i don't do a huge number of long trips where I will need to lube away from home (oooo err).
Please don't take this as a slight on the strada, Its a great bike but for me the SP makes more sense for my style of riding.
here is a pic of the SP i rode yesterday
