Did an incredible ride today on my Hyperstrada. I'll preface by saying that I'm new to motorcycles. Had a Honda 500 for only a month before jumping into the Hyper. First time I had the opportunity to really see what she can do. Feels great; so eager to turn-in and switch direction! And feels so much faster in the country than in the city. Even accelerating hard from a light doesn't feel as exhilarating as cruising along the coast at 60mph at 6k rpm and then pulling full throttle all at once. I enjoyed pulling full throttle, backing off, then pulling again real fast. Great jerk of torque! Perfect weather (but got a little toasty towards the end of the day). Started in the mountains with the twisty roads, over 6,000 feet of elevation gain, then crossed over to the coast, had lunch at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay and cruised down the gorgeous coastline on PCH. It was AMAZING. Very little traffic, too.
Tons of bikers out. Passed at least 50, 1 or 2 at a time. And every. single. one. waved, and of course, I waved back. Huge camaraderie between bikers, irregardless of what kind of bike you're driving. While I was stopped on the side of the road to take pictures, I waved at one biker going by and he gave me the thumbs up sign to ask if I was OK. I gave him a thumbs up back. It's like roadside assistance wherever you go. Bikers stick together and if one biker needs help, they all stop to help you. Amazing!
And every so often, I'd dart onto one of the dirt roads that led right up to the breathtaking coastal cliffs. This bike is an awesome machine! Incredible fun to transition instantaneously from road to off-road!! Very, very glad I got this bike over a full street bike. Definitely can't go where I did in a car! Not even a Jeep because a Jeep can't slip passed the barriers. Loads of fun climbing hills as the rear end is sliding about as it finds grip.
And hard to believe, but it only used 3 gallons of gas for 160 miles! Despite the fact that I was flogging the heck out of it and pulled full throttle for full throttle spurts probably 50 or 60 times. I'm pretty blown away at that gas mileage considering how hard I was running it!
Awesome ride... and I've got the bugs to prove it. Took home about 50 bugs with me and have to clean my helmet visor twice. Nothing like cruising along and then BAM, a big bug splatters all over your visor. Luckily, if you go real fast, most of the guts will blow off and you can see better. Haha!!
I was considering switching to a Diavel towards the end of this year as I like all of the fancy gizmos it has, but I think this ride today just sold it for me. I LOVE the fact that I can instantly transition from on-road to off. And the Diavel can't do that as it's purely a street bike.
Love this bike! Performed perfectly. And to reward it, when I got home I gave her a 2 hour bath.
