The worst tire.

We often talk about the tire we would recommand but what about the ones we would actually NOT recommand.

For instance. My shop in Ottawa gave me this Honda NC750X on two seperated occassions as a loner and I though the sliding and lack of traction was due to my inexperience the first time. Almost two years and approx 40 000 km later I had the same bike with the same tires again and same results. I finally concluded I was wrong in my fisrt estimate and that the tire are actually of poor quality. With these I have to absolutely avoid the paint marking even at a slow rate turn. Even when it's scorching hot outside and after 10 to 20 min. riding. Now imagine when they're cold! Sketchy.

So I recommand avoid the Dunlop TrailMax D609. These are the worst I've driven with so far.

You are safe has lonh has you drive straight and keep it easy on the throttle.

My worst brand would be Shinko. Yes some would say its cheap and grip is OK, but when it rains good luck with it.

I'm not a fan of the OEM Scorpions.. They're just such s vague feeling tire that I can't wait to get rid of them.. Damn things are almost 10,000 km old now.. So I'm hoping they'll need to be replaced soon.

Haha you mean that great feeling when you give it a bit of go coming out of the corner and the DTC3 gives you that nice amount of rear slide pulling you through the corner?

But really, they gave me 10,000km which was nice. Grip... not really the best, not the worst. Didn't do much off road either.

Agree with you. The scorpion are kind of soft. Especially when load with lauguage and/or with a passenger.

It tried the Angel GT from the same brand and I got the upgrade I was looking for. I could average 13000km all the way down to the mesh with the Scorpion while I easily get 15000km with the Angel GT and still have some meat on it.

15000 km ? how do you do that ?
If my Angel GT is good for 7000 km i will be happy, most likely they only will last 5000-6000, the way they look after 4000 km now.

He does it by running the tire until it is totally unsafe. Down to the cords? You know, the wear indicators are there for a reason...

Yes I do. And I've done this only once so far AND for curiosity.

The exception confirm the rule but does not mean all the time.

I really hated the Shinko tires I had, and the Bridgestone S20's I had were never that good and wore very weird.

I am LOVING the Metzeler M7RR so far.

Your amazement is the equivalent of mine to know other drivers killing their tires in less than half of what I can do. Like, I don't make a particular effort to save the tires above all. It's defenitively due to the driving style but I can only try to describe at best.

-I don't do burns at the red light.
-I use both front and rear brakes evenly.
-I don't start and race down the street at every occasions.
-Lot's of country riding.

Easy answer: You are SLOW.

But seriously...

Respectful answer: I am retired, don't commute or run errands on our bikes much. Although I tend to use the front brake more than the rear, otherwise that list describes my riding. However, I do enjoy burning around the corners, which wears them out on the edges first. This is not on mere 'country roads', more like 'racing roads'. Also, we don't have gatsos or much radar on these roads.

No problems bud. But slow, me? What? lol... well maybe (just for the benefit of doubt) but according to some I'm not. I'm only reporting what I've been told. I'm very considerate when I lead large groups but once on my own or with few choosen buddies that's a different story. Ticket wise I've been lucky -knock on wood- so far.

However. I wrotew the 'country road' to point out the factor that I don't start and stop has much has in the city. 60% of my rides happen in the country side. Maybe that explain my tires longivity.

You bet I whish I could go. Really.

A friend of mine is familiar with the area and filed my brain with dreams about touring the states. Socal, the Apalachians, the Dragon's tail, etc etc name it. But I can't step foot on US soil. Since the United States Department of Homeland Security can't make the difference between the bad teenager I was 25 years ago and a terrorist, well it suck to be me.

Still. I can try Europe, most of the Asian countries, Africa... Australia...

Sorry to hear that, and the way our politics look right now that won't change very soon. I was born at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge, but am on some sort of Homeland Security watch list. Have been denied access to a flight because "my name was similar to one on the no-fly list." WTF?

Ha ha no it's not quite that bad. They just make me jump though extra hoops to get a boarding pass. But my wife and I were on our way back from a guided tour to China and Tibet in '07 and got bumped from our return flight in Singapore because of this...even though China did give us Visas. Wasn't their fault, it was good ol' DHS. That was a bit scary, but we did make it home.
