Traction Control Question

I took a Hyperstradas for a test spin at my local dealer. I had a blast and found it shockingly comfortable. Out of all the bikes I have owned I miss is my KTM 690SM the most. The bike was an absolute grin machine but sadly single purposed. In the twists and in hooligan mode it was great but outside of that it was taxing to ride. The Hyperstrada seems to be the best of both worlds. Ripper in the twisties, comfortable elsewhere, mannered enough for around town and highway trips, and much more punch than the KTM.

So I will stop preaching to the choir and convincing myself its a rationale purchase.
I have a question about the traction control.
During my demo ride, 1 hour, I messed with the Sport, Touring, and urban settings. But I neglected to mess with the Traction Control settings.
The bike seems to have good punch but no wheel lift punch. Maybe this is a new bike and maybe I was kinder on the throttle because it was a new demo bike.
I feel it should have more low end torque.
With that said, again I did not pay attention to the TC setting.
Is there a default setting 1-8 per mode ( Sport touring or urban)?
Could the dealer have set the TC at the most intrusive level and I would have to manually change it( outside of switching from sport to touring to urban)?

Thanks

It does have presets for the DTC, for each engine mode. You can change that or go back to defaults. Default for "Sport" mode is 3 DTC and 1 ABS, for "Touring" mode 4 DTC and 2 ABS.

Listening to the old HM 1100 guys, this motor does not have the same big grunt down low so not as easy to lift the front.

If this is true this might be why there was no wheel lift.

"The eight-way adjustable traction control was worth having on slippery roads, but has to be turned off for wheelies."

Anyone know if the wheel will lift with any level of traction control on? Or does it have to be switched off to wheelie ????

I got a little pop shifting to 2nd today. Remember how far forward you sit on this bike, too.

Is there "anti wheelie" electronics on this bike?It may be a deal breaker for me until they add it.I took out the base model for a 40 min demo and got the front up a few times...not on purpose though!

OK so that still begs the question. When you felt the wheel lift did TC intervene ? Has anyone tried to wheelie with TC on and had it cut in?
My S1000RR won't lift at all in rain mode, it will pogo in sport mode, and lift for a considerable amount of time before intervention in slick mode.
Im wondering if the Hyper is similar.

Maybe its best to broaden the discussion beyond the wheelie.

Being a non owner but a very interested perspective buyer I was hoping to get more info on the DTC. The Wheelie question seemed the simplest to ask.
I would actually like to know all the details around the DTC and ABS. I can't seem to find any details from Ducati and the dealers don't have the answers.

I had the same issue with the S1000 when it first came out. BMW did an OK job of explaining it. But they guys on the S1000 forum gave detailed reports on there real world experiences.

My questions:

Are there standard setting of DTS and ABS for each mode? ( SuperTen answered this I believe)
If so can we modify and customize these setting to our liking or will they always default back to the original when the bike is tuned off?
What level of intervention comes with each level of setting? Front and rear wheel lift ?
Does DTC have a lean angle sensor and will it intervene after we exceed that lean angel?
Does ABS link the front and rear wheel? If Yes can it be turned off?

I know its a new bike and not everything can be answered"¦..but I can help asking

The traction control works monitoring the speed of each wheel and makes sure both wheels are rotating at the same speed, if your front wheel goes up it immediately starts going slower than the rear wheel, making the traction control kick in, the same happens if the rear wheel spins it starts going faster than the front wheel.

So just take the traction control off and you can wheelie all day long ;)

3 power modes have default factory settings for DTC & ABS; these can be modified and do not reset with power off.

ABS is not linked front to rear; highest ABS setting intervenes both ends and prevents rear wheel lift; next lower setting only intervenes on front; last settin is OFF

bike will wheelie, plenty of reviews/video prove it. not sure about lean angle sensor

Good initial review but I don't think he was speaking from experience when he said "lift the wheel in sport mode all day..." I've been riding in sport mode with same settings and full boil in 1st from stop hasn't launched wheel yet. I've gotten it up or very light on the shift to 2nd a few times.

Between the Hayden motard vid and couple moto reviews, the wheel gets up - 2 journalists looped it on test rides. I'm sure the first thing any serious rider/journalist does on the track is turn all driver aides off to get full feel of motor and chassis dynamics.

I know they upgraded the Multi12 for 2013 to be less intrusive. I had the 2010 and it was very abrupt even in touring mode. Like when you are accelerating over a railroad track, or rear tire going down.

Think the HyperStrada uses similar electronics. The front brakes are not linked to rear. Some confusion there with my salesman, as the Multi12 2013 is linked in some levels or modes.

ABS kicked in on me yesterday, as I pulled off the highway to take a picture, hit wet mud and gravel with moderate front brake. ABS let off, just before I was going to ease up.
