Where To Put The Alarm?

Just got a new HS that replaced my stolen 2014 Multistrada .. love it .. super fun!

However I opened the seat up and discovered there is barely enough room to fit my insurance and registration papers under the seat, much less an alarm unit.

Ducati has a factory alarm option so there must be a space under the sub-covers somewhere, just wondering if anyone knows off the top of their heads where that might be.

Thanks wlboy .. ha! That alarm module must be tiny!

I'm looking at getting a Scorpio Ride system (Scorpio | Motorcycle Alarms) ... given that my Multi was stolen right off the street I live on I'm more than a little paranoid.

I think the motion sensor module might fit in that space at least though... and I'll have to figure out where to put the rest I guess before I buy it.

I think the after market alarms will perform better....it's their specialty after all. But you won't beat the plug and play integration of the ducati alarm. Its a real clean installation. There should be several threads around this site or other hypermotard sites with pictures.

Yeah saw those threads and the stock alarm looks super easy and tempting for that reason but ..... for $350+ though and no app/GPS/cell telemetry ... the Ride system does all of that for basically the same price. It can even do tire pressure monitoring as it looks like the hyper uses metal valve stems.

The Ducati alarm looks like it's is nothing but a noise maker .. which is fine ... but again having had my previous bike's pin lock drilled out and dragged onto a trailer ... I want something that's going to wake me up so I can chase after it and/or send the location to the police. Not to mention not worrying about it if I'm out of ear shot.

I swung by the dealer and I think I'm going to just "make it their problem" and have them find somewhere to stuff it when I have them take the bike apart for the Denali D2 installation. I'd love to do all this stuff myself but my current place has no garage :(

I'm in the midst of deciding the D2 and the Clearwater Darla. Where are going to hang those?? I am looking at the handlebar area. :D

Spot sells a tracking device that will send you an email whenever the bike starts moving. It can be attached anywhere and runs on batteries.

If a bunch of guys are stealing my bike I'm not going to go out there and confront them.

From another thread someone else used these to get their D2s on there: TECHMOUNT - Products And it looked awesome on the hand guards.

I had the 1st gen denalis on my previous two bikes and they were great. D2s being 70% brighter sound awesome heh. 24 watts per pod sounds crazy for the darla's :p

Yeah Ride has built in batteries as a backup though it runs off your main battery under normal operation (this is pretty normal for alarms). I also don't just "want an email if it's moving" I want an actual alert on my phone but only if I didn't disarm it.

It was one guy. And I happened to (at the time unknowingly) park in front of a police officer's house who eventually woke up to the commotion and did just that. The guy panicked and took off with my bike partially secured and dragging 15+ blocks. The officer chased the guy in his bare feet and underwear. He eventually lost the guy despite another neighbor following him in a car later. Insurance paid me out and about 30 days later it was found on a quiet road sitting on it's kick stand and reported as abandoned. The thief must have known the heat was on. By the time it was found/reported it was no longer my bike though.

Had I had an alarm the theft would have likely been aborted by the thief. Had it continued and I got an alert I could have chased after the guy or pressed a single button to relay the information to the police and they could have pulled up basically google maps and found the guy within minutes.

The whole experience has been very eye opening to say the least.

On the other hand had this never happened I'd have never gotten a HyperStrada which I, in all honesty, am enjoying so much more than the MultiStrada GTS.. Don't get me wrong the MultiStrada is a work of art (and I miss it's lighting) and I loved it but ... the flickable fun factor .. not so much.

Did the cop have a cruiser in his driveway? If so, the balls on that guy!

I've played the scenario of one of my vehicles getting jacked many times. It's like if your significant other has an affair- I just don't want it back. Hell, I don't even like my wife driving my car. Got admit the degenerate had taste, though...

I'd miss the gear indicator and suspension, also. But, the Strada is the most perfectly sized bike for me. Was the Multi noticeably faster? I'd prob get itchy if the Strada felt much slower.

It sends an alert on your phone and tracks the bike via gps so it can be recovered.

Your theft story is pretty unique - I'd still call the cops rather than get shot or beaten - love the bike but it's not worth it.

I'd rather hold him at gunpoint until the cops arrive. Maybe a superficial wound if he damaged the bike.

As Vincent Vega said in Pulp Fiction: "...I mean, don't **** with another man's vehicle!"

Sure -In my mind yes. But life isn't a movie and - As someone else said - you pull a gun - you use a gun. Not worth it. Plus they can shoot back.

Get the insurance and get another bike. A guy far tougher than myself gave me this advice and it rings true.

No, though apparently he's had two police bomb squad vehicles broken into on that street over the years :p

Exactly ... given how new it was "getting it fixed" was not ever going to be acceptable to me so I'm kinda glad it didn't get found. OTOH .. still breaks my heart a bit :p

Yeah I'd say the suspension and lighting (LED low beams and fog lights) in that order for me. SkyHook definitely is not a marketing ploy -- it's absolutely amazing. That being said yeah the Hyper is so much easier to manage due to being ~100 lbs lighter and just a more nimble bike in general.

My overall take is that the Hyper is actually faster. Or feels faster anyway. I never had the traction/anti-wheelie light come on so much with the Multi as I have with my first few days with the Hyper.

Oh and oddly ... I find the Hyper to be more comfortable so far. Both butt and shoulder wise (the two issues generally that force me to take breaks).

Kind of. I'm told these guys simply drive up and down the grid while on their phone to their buddy who takes notes of bikes of interest. They then come back that night or whatever and see what's easy. The police officer chasing the guy part was ... but everything else apparently happens every day here.

I'm not saying I'd get into a physical confrontation with someone ... especially if they had a gun. If my presence didn't scare them off I could very easily just let them and the bike go, then press one button on the app and notify the police and give them a live feed on where the bike is so they can just go intercept them.

I think overall though a motion/shock/etc sensing alarm though would have made him skip my bike entirely. 20/20 hindsight ...

You're either a wolf or a sheep. Criminals don't go to the range and practice their draw, reloads on the fly, weak hand, specific scenarios, etc. All actions have consequences. If the degenerate wants to pull a gun on you when being confronted for a crime, he should expect an equal and opposite response.

Ordered the Scorpio Ride + Security and TPM modules as well as the Denali D2s with TechMount clamps for the hand guards. Will post pictures once I get them in and see if the dealer can take pictures of where they put the alarm modules for everyone's reference who wants to do an aftermarket alarm.

As a side note I have LED replacement bulbs for the turn signals and license plate light, too which should come in tomorrow.
