Hey guys, I have copy pasted an email I received from beemershop in socal regarding up grading the stock suspension. He mentioned the YSS suspension and I am wondering if anyone here has them in thier bikes or know much about them in terms of performance.
Thank you

Hello Toufic,

Thanks for your email. Yes we have suspension upgrades for your bike and our customers have been very happy with the results.

Wilbers are custom built in Germany. You select the features you need, select a spring color (blue or black) and they build it to your weight and riding style.

The Wilbers shocks can be built with rebound adjust and manual preload adjust for only $619.00 which is a great value for a custom built German made shock with a 5 year warranty. If you don't change your loads often such as adding a passenger routinely, the manual threaded ring spring preload adjuster works fine. If your loads change often, it may get tiring to always have to adjust your spring tension with a wrench, so they also offer a hydraulic preload adjuster which puts the shock price at $868.00, on sale for $848.00.

Wilbers also offers a state of the art top of the line piggyback reservoir shock for riders who need a higher level of performance and/or adjustability for rough roads or track days which gives you a piggyback reservoir and high/low compression adjusters at $999.00.

As you can see you have options to fit every budget. If Wilbers do not fit your budget, we also carry YSS shocks which are deigned similar to Wilbers but are built in Thailand. They are a high quality product with a two year warranty. However if Wilbers fits your budget, it is an exceptionally good shock 100% built in Germany with a 5 year warranty.

Thanks for getting in touch. The order requires a $300.00 deposit, the balance is charged in about 3 weeks when we ship the shock to you. Let me know if you have any questions, I"m happy to help.

Best regards,

Ted Porter

I've called Ted and talked to him on the phone for 20-30 minutes before. He's a very smart guy and will chat suspension all day.

Wilbers is a known very reputable brand. Not sure about YSS, but chances are he is not selling junk and will stand behind his product.

As I recall, YSS is made in Taiwan and is popular in Asia. Rear shock for the Hyper appeared to be $800 on eBay. 3 way adjustable. Great factory customer service for those in Asia.

For not much more I decided to go with Mupo because it is Italian and tested on Italian bikes, made by folks that are very familiar with the Hyperstrada.

I've had Ohlins and Wilbers on my BMWs. Fine shocks but I'd give the tip to Ohlins.

After purchase service is important for any suspension purchase. Warranty repair, service and periodic rebuild. That's why I made my suspension purchase from a company close by. Someone who stands behind the products he sells.

I have not run the YSS but know people who have and they were not of skill to tell us the difference between them, Ohlins or Wilbers. For that matter, neither am I. So, my observation is they are good shocks and I'm confident Ted keeps parts on hand to rebuild them.

I typically run Ohlins or Wilbers and will offer this...on the street, I prefer the Wilbers, hands down, great shocks. Never disappointed me and have held up great (50K+ miles on one set). Ohlins, if they are the factory shocks that are Ohlins, I have not found these to be as good all the time as the aftermarket Ohlins, which are functionally equivalent/capable as the Wilbers (mine had preloader, high and low speed comp damping). If you buy aftermarket Ohlins, and especially the TTX, you will never be disappointed. Top of the line shock.

That said, I'm confident if Ted is selling them, the YSS are just fine. I personally get off the delta for the Wilbers because they have been so good. I also like to go for Ohlins (TTX) for some bikes and definitely on forks. Wilbers typically doesn't address forks like Ohlins. Not sure about YSS.

Just my 2 cents and good luck...

Frankly, you are best off getting a balanced front/rear suspension should you desire a higher level of performance. Having one end perform differently doesn't improve the riding like a balanced set-up.

This is why I chose Mupo. Using their fork cartridges AND rear shock makes for what is arguably a level of performance higher than the SP Ohlins set-up. Whether higher or the same, either makes for a handling package that serious riders find more enjoyable. Bigger ear to ear grins, and a higher level of safety as road imperfections are absorbed without upsetting the chosen line of travel.
