corroding

Afternoon folks! Had anyone noticed their engine covers, i.e. clutch and generator, losing their coating? Nearly half of the clutch side has given up and left behind a rough surface and powdery, white residue. The other side isn't so bad but still looks pretty rough. just wondering if...
