    698 va 950

I'm still on the fence about buying a lightly used '23 950 for CAD$13k. Initial owner traded up to an SP at the dealership. The bike has 2000 km now. The SP is obviously more appealing. Consensus seems to be that the 950s are nice for hooning around, but not as flickable as the little 698. I'd...

    Reluctant starts

You've only put three rides on the bike and it's going in for the 600 mile service? Lol, my ass aches just imagining anything over 100 km. You get my vote for honoris causa membership in:

    Akrapovič slip ons

I wonder what the stock cans could achieve if given a Shift Tech Carbon cat-less header pipe - apart from dumping 7.2 pounds of dead weight - if only a good tune was available. https://shift-tech-carbon.com/products/st3351-2-shift-tech-titanium-header-cat-less-header-system-hypermotard-698

    Akrapovič slip ons

Isuse bože. With that big ******** at 8400 rpm ... Akra can stick it. Underwhelming AF.

    Storage compartment

Lol, there's the "tool box" holding the 5 mm Allen key, but that's the suboptimal extent of it. I keep an HID ProxKey in the emergency info pocket on the left sleeve of my Klim jacket, for access to my parkade. My FasTrak sticker transponder works reliably for toll roads on the backside of the...

    Evap canister

It wouldn't matter if the evap canister ever got clogged on this bike, Rodolfo, because the right hand side of valve #18 is completely exposed to the atmosphere via tube #14. Tube #14 is there to supply make-up air to the gas tank when fuel is consumed, so plug #15 needs to be removed from these...

    Evap canister

Valve #18 is the key, since it's clearly responsible for the tank being able to pressurize. Reluctant starts occasionally happen when the tank is pressurized, and it's undoubtedly due to the engine being flooded. I'm looking to replace valve #18 with a fairly restrictive 2-way breather vent...

    698 won't shift lower than 4th

Counting my blessings. My salesperson is extremely knowledgeable and very likeable ... which was a very refreshing change. I was even tempted to go back and pick up a very lightly used Hyper 950. My 2nd closest dealer is roughly a 3 hour drive and their sales team was a complete fail. A lot of...

    698 won't shift lower than 4th

Thanks for that update. It sounds like good news. Really hoping a better flange doesn't end up drawing out the next weakest link. I wonder if and/or when the revised part went on the production line ... and if I should be proactive about inspecting and replacing that part. Would be great to get...

    Evap canister

I imagine there would be four steps for a full delete: rip out all of the existing evap crap, install vacuum cap on the intake port at the engine side of hose #10, install resistor termination (value not yet known) on the wiring harness plug for breather (purge) valve #9, route a new tank vent...

    Evap canister

If our reluctant starts indeed were caused by tank pressurization, then valve #18 is at fault (excessive cracking pressure?) because plug #15 was removed from my bike, and that would have allowed any venting to go straight to atmosphere (through pipe #14) rather than out through the evap...

    Evap canister

DRAWING 35B - EVAP CRAP (screenshot from the spare parts catalogue) #1 canister filter #2 bracket carbon canister #9 valve, breather (looks like there's an electrical connection) #15 plug (that some techs do or don't remove) #18 valve (one way pressure relief, based on my tank pressurizing in...

Anyone installed the Termignoni Exhaust for Hypermotard 698 Mono?

Some of us old farts love pulling wheelies and braaping around. Wheelies seem to carry a lot of stigma in the UK but (from my perspective) there’s really no other way to know that you’ve reached max acceleration … in the same way that stoppies give us feedback about our braking. :)

Filter & Slipon vs Full termi

Watch this YT dyno run discussion … and give Vcyclenut a thumbs up. I favour riding the peak of the torque curve (6k-9k) so I’m left with the impression that I’d be happier without a termi. YMMV. I haven’t looked particularly closely at relative gear ratios and shift points, but I suspect that...

    Mirrors

I wouldn’t be looking for tinted mirrors but here they are on Mr. Austin’s 698. Looks decent to me.

    Mirrors

I think Mr. Austin’s mirrors look a lot like these Ali Express specials … https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32879718063.html Seen here on a 950SP but they were also mounted on the 698RVE.

    Mirrors

I like the stealth mirror in town and on the twisties. They don’t buzz. While the curvature expands the field of view, to help/compensate for the small size, it gives that whole “objects are closer than they appear” deal and makes it tougher to see distant vehicles coming up from behind … so I’d...

    Air filter

Sprint. The sprint is dry polyester, easier to clean, and supposed to have better flow and filtration. K&N and DNA are oiled cotton filters. https://www.sprintfilter.net/motorcycle/products

    698 won't shift lower than 4th

Thanks, Shore2plz & MrBoom. It would be nice if we could learn whether those flange parts are bending or breaking, and how badly they're ending up.
