    The Suspension Thread!!! BOOING

O-oh, didn't remember that thread, so thanks Uncle B! I ought to have done because I chipped in and bad-mouthed Nitron's shock specced for my 650 Cagiva Raptor. Glad to say that Nitron re-valved that one for me gratis. Still not a brilliant ride on that bike but better, and the Nitron people...

    The Suspension Thread!!! BOOING

OK, I feel it's time to improve the suspension on my '13 821 HS to make it more compliant over real-world surfaces, rather than just trunk roads. Being in the UK, I've spoken to Brook Suspension, who recommend the Andreani cartridges as good value. I also asked about YSS fully-adjustable shocks...

    Front brake question

That would be radial, I think? I've never seen axial used to describe old-style masters, but that would seem appropriate as they operate on the axis of the 'bars.

    Front brake question

Uncle B; Thanks for confirming my belief that Brembo levers should have that provision for adjusting free play in the hydraulics. Fortunately, it wasn't me having a problem! Nick

    Front brake question

"Have a picture? Maybe you’re referring to the lever adjustment? Mine is a 2016." The piston-clearance adjuster is at the base of the lever and was common to previous Ducati/Brembo units on my various Monsters and my ST4. However, I must admit that I've put cheap-but-good Chinese...

Installing Aprilia (Eldor) Coil Packs on Hypermotard/Hyperstrada

The coil is actually in the stick that fits over the spark plug. If you can access the spark plug, you'll have the coil in hand! Then, all you have to do is trace the cable back to a junction block. Both are, I seem to remember, pretty easy to locate without taking anything else off. Certainly...

    Front brake question

That's odd. Mine has the integral 'coffin' reservoir and the adjuster for the plunger, with locking spring. It's a 2013 821 HS, and I'm pretty sure the one previous owner hadn't changed it because he never modified anything else. Which model/market/year is yours?

    Front brake question

I should check on mine first, but usually Brembo masters have an adjustment screw at the base of the lever. You can alter the setting of that to reduce lost motion, so long as you make absolutely sure that there is venting to the reservoir in the fully-released position. You need to see a tiny...

Install IRC QuickShifter (w/ Auto Blipper) on Hyperstrada 821.

Can you explain your question please?

Help, won't start hypermotard 821 2013, dashboard flashes

Uncle Brad, That's an excellent writeup; thanks for that! I'm glad to say I've covered all the points mentioned, apart from checking whether mine got fitted with the dealer canbus filter. Hopefully the Eldor coils and ferrite chokes on the cables will keep the ECU safe. Nick

    Headlight bulb issue

It was a while back, but I think the LED was flickering on one beam so I fitted the cheap decoder without much success. Maybe it was the LED bulb itself. Whatever, I used the other of the pair of Auxito LEDs I'd bought rather than the previous one when I re-installed LED this time. Time will tell!

    Headlight bulb issue

Just a follow-up to this thread. Last year I gave up on LED main H4 bulbs in the HS, much as I go for them in all other bikes/cars, because of compatability issues. Yesterday I tried again because I hate the feeble glow of halogen. I've re-fitted the good-quality Auxito H4 I last tried but added...

Installing Aprilia (Eldor) Coil Packs on Hypermotard/Hyperstrada

Yes! Buying the Aprilia coils is probably cheaper and easier than the Ducati ones (of course, you might get lucky), but it was very simple to splice the Ducati connectors onto the Aprilia cables, rather than changing the connector blocks. On advice from here, I also fitted a cheap ferrite choke...

    Shock and Fork Lengths

Given the chassis is exactly the same, are we to assume that the difference lies in the available suspension travel, and might that mean the low model needs stronger springs to compensate? It'll be interesting to get my measuring stick out tomorrow... Nick, UK

    Shock and Fork Lengths

I haven't any measurements for you as yet, but perhaps you need to specify the condition of measuring, i.e. on side-stand or centre-stand or wheels otherwise free of the ground? Then of course there's the question of seat spec to complicate the effective riding height. Nick

How many miles on your Hyperstrada today?

Well, an ST4 Ducati of course, plus various Cagivas (Canyon 500, Gran Canyon 900, Raptor 650, Raptor 1000, Alazzurra 650-ish), two Gilera NordWest 600s, a '76 Suzuki GT550 and a '53 Guzzi Airone Sport. One or two of them need a little work but they are all in good shape. Problem is finding space...

How many miles on your Hyperstrada today?

My 2013 HS 821 has a massive 9863 miles on the odo! Most of that was put on by the previous (first) owner who took his lady to the TT on it at least once. So far, I just use it for a bit of fun local riding to contrast with the other machines on hand, dry-weather only. I know I'm pretty lucky...

    New owner in AZ

Hmm, I was wondering if the forum would ever function again. It seems so! As for Multis; I would like to try a late 950s, but the looks and price are against me so I'll stick with my 'Strada. Cheers to all :) , Nick, UK

    New Ducati DesertX

Whether or not the specification is appropriate for the suggested use, would any Ducati enthusiast actually buy a bike like that and ride it through deep sand? The thought of what that would do to the transmission, wheel bearings and brakes, quite apart from the air filtering provision, would...

    2022 MV Brutale 800RR - I may have to...

Re access, I think the time has long-gone when you could see clean through a bike, cos there's so much to package. I seem to recall that Terblanche once said that Ducatis would always have free space around the motor, but that doesn't apply to such as the latest Monster. I suppose they still...
