I will be changing the oil myself and looking into oils other than the Motul 300v 15w50 that the Ducati dealer uses.

I saw this Motul 5100 4T Synthetic Ester Blend Motor Oil is half the cost of that stuff they use.

What am I going to run into if I use the Ester Blend?

Wrong viscosities.

What do you mean? Ducati Beverly Hills puts Motul 15w50 in all their Hypermotards & Hyperstradas

Here are the specs for the 5100 4T 15w-50

The viscosities are very close. The VI is a bit lower.

Of those only the bottom one is in the right viscosity range. The 300V.

I wouldn't touch the 5100 4T with the specs you just posted.

The 10-40 results are a good indication about the other motorcycle viscosities too. I have the 20-50 results somewhere too.

Price consideration was removed as it doesn't matter that much to me.

I was using the Mobil 1 4T oil in my race bike and was fine. Was considering using that in my 939 as well. Any thoughts?

Cool an oil thread.

I use Motul 7100 10W40. I've also used Motul 300V 15w50 and Mobil 1 4T 10w40. They all work fine, but the clutch engagement smoothness started really suffering after 3,000 miles on the Mobil 1.

RSL - these are tests done from Amsoil, right ;-)

my Dealer puts Castrol RS 20W50 in, I change to LiquiMoly or Motul 10W60.
The 10W60 lets clutch work much better and smoother.
