Another Exhaust Flapper/Servo Thread

Yes...I know, there are at least 5 - 6 other threads on here, 20 something pages of sifting and sorting through debates and conversations. I've read them all and still lacking answers.

With all the reading I've done here and outside of this forum - the exhaust flapper is just a nuisance. It seems to be the cause of many annoying issues such as sound dampening, rpm loss when blipping, throttle response and extra hard engine braking that causes the bike to nose dive.

I've decided to go the Exhaust Servo Eliminator route. Or at least unplug the servo and place that in there to avoid throwing a light.

My only question at this point, before I go tearing into my Hyperstrada 939 is - where do I find the plug to connect that servo eliminator to? Some say under the seat and some say under left fairing.

Does anyone have a detailed installation guide for the Hypers?

It's sorta under the ECU on the right side rear of the bike. You can take off the right rear panel with 3 screws and see the motor and connector right there.

I removed my 821 motor, just one less thing to break. The 939 apparently throws a light. Both will show an error in the ECU that it is missing.

I think it's been proven without a doubt that it won't throw a code or light if you remove the servo completely. I just disconnected the spring in the exhaust housing when it was still up for debate. I plan to remove completely when I get back to my bike in a couple months.

821 will not throw a code, 939 will throw a code if the servo is removed.

As for location, Kuksul08 is on point. It's under the ECU/battery on the right side of the bike. The black cover by the seat release lock is the one you want to remove.

On my 939, it it is under the seat, just to the right (throttle side) of the ecu/battery. No need to remove any fairings.

...and you definitely need a servo eliminator to keep from throwing a code on the 939. Just a note: the latch holding the connector together is a little counter intuitive. Don't force is, it will slide apart easily when you have pressed on the right part. [emoji12]

Awesome!! Thank You. That's what I was looking for. I appreciate the the picture. Just ordered my Duc.ee and will have it installed soon!

Installed my eliminator on the 939 two days ago. The check engine light that came on when I disconnected the valve and prior to installing the eliminator took a few on and off cycles to finally go out.
I am very pleased with the change after disconnecting the valve. Smoother and louder.

That's great to hear. I'm stoked to get mine put on. Will have to post a video of before/after & installation of the eliminator when I do.

When you installed your duc.ee - do you need to actually remove the entire servo or just unplug the servo and plug the duc.ee in place. Before I completely ditch the servo motor I'd like to run some tests.

I just left everything in there and plugged it in. No need to remove the servo.

Removing the servo

Somewhere there was a thread/post that detailed how to remove the servo step by step. I can't find it now  Anybody able to point me in the right direction? Thanks.

I've unplugged the servo plug and fitted a 14T front sprocket a while ago and like how the bike is as a result. Much more pleasant to ride.

You can just unplug. I also disconnected the cable at the muffler. Left the servo unit in place since I did not feel like messing with it.

I unplugged it ages ago. I want to get rid of the servo so I can use the space to fit another accessory :)

What's weird is that I took my bike to the Duc dealer and they are saying my engine light is on because of the servo motor error. And that if they install the servo eliminator plug it should go away. Also if I want to have them buy it and install it  I'm wondering if it throws a light if the motor malfunctioned or went dead. But won't if it just disconnected. Think they are just trying to get money? They told me the only error showing up on their computer is the servo motor.

I actually removed the flap and left the servo motor and cable in place initially. There’s a couple of screws holding the flap with a spot of weld on them. A dremel and a screwdriver required. Never got around to removing it entirely. Cheers.

I rode it for years with the servo still connected and no flapper. I eventually removed it because I needed space under the seat. My mechanic said my 'ERRORS' (Engine) was because I needed the delete plug, which he installed, but the light never went out. He said he would need the OEM flapper and servo to reset properly...pass. I've had the light for years now and learned to live with it.

If they're the same, mine only comes on as soon as I hit the starter, every time.

Interesting. I wonder if I'm going to run into this, the tune I have disables the servo, and I've heard if it's not in use / moving it'll eventually seize. No CEL light as of yet and it's been disabled for almost a year now.
