backwards compatible dash? HELP

Hey All, I recently purchased a 939 hypermotard from an insurance auction.

I've bought two 1100s in the past this way with zero issues. This bike is proving otherwise haha.

It turns out the dashboard is bad, I was wondering if anyone knows if I could use a dash from an 821 model? They both look exactly the same, and have the same amount of electrical connections but different part numbers.

4061122B for the 939 models
40610951f for the 821 dash

The bike did not come with keys, and the company that was going to provide me with keys just let me know today that the dash is bad (no display) and im looking for other options then spending the $1000 at the dealer.

Or if anyone knows of someone parting a bike out let me know!

I read this entire thread and am wondering when they replaced any of those dashes if they ended up using the newer part number.

any help is appreciated!

Don't know anything about this but often see second hand parts come up for sale from people who've crashed and totaled their bikes. At least over here stripping and selling the parts individually seems to allow them to recuperate most of the costs.

Even heard of a guy who makes a decent living just by buying crappy second hand bikes just to strip them and sell for parts.

Maybe scour second hand sites for a used dash?

Just had a look at the local used site we use in the Netherlands. They currently only have them for the 1100/796 range but seem to come as a complete set. Dash, contact, keys, fuel cap and ECU for about 450 euros. Around 550$

dashes are definitly different between 821 and 939.
939 has a gear indicator in the dash which 821 did not have.

I'd check the recall history. There was a dash wiring issue that could cause issues with the dash. Maybe you can get a freebie out of it.

...probably gonna need a key first

Awesome thank you for the information. Just saved me a bunch of money buy buying the wrong one.
