There's a solution - good cold weather gear 
. I put my HS away when the roads are salted, but the DR650 never sleeps. The looks I get from fellow motorists when it's single digits is priceless.

This. Get a heated jacket liner. Sorted.
If sand and salt aren't everywhere, this is the answer. Snug and warm - add glove liners and it's even better.
