Dash backlighting not coming on

I know the headlight doesn't come on until you start the bike, but is the dash supposed to stay dark or light up with the key on but engine off? All of the indicators (high beam, neutral, oil pressure, etc.) all work, but I was just checking the battery voltage and didn't start the bike. If this is a problem, is there a known cause?

Huh. Never really noticed. Minor inconvenience and I doubt there's a dedicated fuse to just the backlight. On a somewhat related note, I hate how the dash always defaults to bright after disconnecting the battery.

dash LCD backlight is supposed to go on with key on. you can try starting the bike to see if if helps. you may have a loose dash harness connector.

Just took it for an hour ride today. Everything works perfectly, but the backlighting isn't coming on. This sucks. I hope I don't need a new dash just for that!

Of all the problems, this seems insignificant but would get increasingly annoying and possibly dangerous (at night). It's like when I had a coolant leak and every time I rode the bike on the highway, I had coolant streamed down the left side, coating my boot and pant leg.

Again, longshot there's a dedicated fuse. I've never seen a thread for cracking open the dash panel. Mine (gen 1) is an older LCD back-lit display. So could be bulb(s). New dash is not cheap so I'd start sourcing a part-out. I got a great deal on an OEM radiator from a company that posted full walkaround, startup and basic function test of the bike they were parting out. You could then operate on bad unit. If someone has the disco dash problem, you'll have a quick sale. Probably some dealer intervention to reset odometer and security?

I would live with it and just run a navigation app with speed/distance up. I don't ride a lot at night but also don't have speed limits to worry about. I reference my gear indicator more than my dash, honestly. Good luck.

Problem is, I was thinking of selling the Hyper. So do I spend $1000 for a new dash to get the going resale rate, or just list it as-is for $1000 less and hope buyers don't get scared away by the backlighting (because there aren't enough things already to worry about on this bike).

Yikes. Stuck between a rock and a hard on. I'd crack it open. At least test the loom going into it for shorts or breaks. I imagine it's not easy and probably has a hefty weather gasket. You try adjusting the backlight settings in menu?

Forgot to update. I was reinstalling the stock windshield in preparation for selling it, and re-seated the dash connector, which seems to have fixed it. Been fine for a couple thousand km's so far. Phew!
